I was among a select few that was not that impressed by the original 300. I found it overlong, bloviating and lacking in action. Not only that, I believe it's trailer to be the originator of this horrible, now rampantly widespread trend, of revealing all a film's worthwhile parts in the trailer, leaving the audience with nothing new to discover. Yes 300 was and is, the greatest movie trailer ever cut. It's epic battle promised audiences the moon yet where the hell was it? In a 2 plus hour film I doubt there was ten minutes of actual swordplay action. That whole film was one giant lie. That being said, it seems my concerns did not fall on deaf ears. For this sequel is basically non-stop action, all of it breathtakingly shot, complete with as much CGI blood spurting as anyone could ask for. Even Gerald Butler's absence is made up for with the casting of Eva Green as the toughest, sexiest and most skilled of the king's Naval commanders. Not to be crude, but her in 3D on a giant Imax screen is something every straight man should see before he dies. All jokes aside, this is exactly how a film like this should be handled and proves the original didn't need to be nearly as long, nor as verbose, nor as boring as it was.
