Saw it when I was 10 and just watched it again yesterday and it's still one of the most entertaining disaster/monster movies ever. Yes, it's a little corny but the humor is decent and makes it more enjoyable. Most movies today are over-the-top serious and dark this movie reminded me that you can have a story of this nature, inject some comedy and cheese and still be entertaining. Yes, it's not a 'traditional' Godzilla movie but do you want the same ol' same ol'? I give credit to the team behind this for taking chances and adapting it to a more contemporary setting and somewhat more believable origin for the monster itself. It still has some of the elements of the original Godzilla films; the nerdy scientist (Matthew Broderick), the pretty female reporter, and the hard as nails general (Kevin Dunn), even the somewhat inept army. I guess you can never please the purists... Still if you want to see an exciting, funny, and genuinely epic scale movie, you should give this one a chance!
