To be clear I'm an atheist, but I'm wiling to overlook a lot to see a Darren Aronofsky film. [...] The film opens with a crib sheet retelling of Genesis and how man scorched the earth and displeased "the Creator" leading him to wipe out everything except of course for Noah who has a vision and yada yada yada. Aronofsky's talent for the visual is evident here, as the film incorporates special effects nicely into the mysticism of the story and I have to admit, I found the first 90 minutes leading up to and including the floods rather thrilling. However, the film's final reel aboard the Ark is just disasterous. Far too much blubbering and speechifying from Jennifer Connelly and Emma Watson (both of whom are more deserving of scripture than this story) and an ill fated narrative decision to transform Noah into a lunatic. This decision spoils what up until then, had been a terrific performance from Russell Crowe, who is one of the only actors with enough gravitas to pull the role off. I'm sure this film will piss plenty of people off for all sorts of reasons but surprisingly, despite my utter hatred for religion and the historic worldwide harm it causes, I did not hate this film.

Your review seems to be more sincere that many of the harsh or raving reviews posted here. Thank you. P.S. It's people who cause harm, not religions. Lack of love causes harm. I am religious, and I don't cause harm. Where I live, I am surrounded by good people from different religions, and we don't hate each other. And I don't condemn the 2% of population on this planet who are atheist. They all need love as much as we do. "Love thy neighbour as thyself." And God... yes, because how the world could have come into existence on its own... from nothing?
It's because of religions that people cause harm.
