Although its main premise is one audiences have seen many times before, Prisoners is executed to near perfection by all concerned, crafting a complex narrative that is unbearably suspenseful and will leave audiences shaken to their very core. There isn't one false moment in the film's 2hr 30 running time, with the viewer completely at the mercy of each newly uncovered clue or red herring. The script by Aaron Guzikowski and the direction by Denis Villeneuve are flawless, managing not only to entertain, but also to pose some unsettling questions about how far a father will go to find his daughter? Hugh Jackman as the father in question is nothing short of spectacular. There aren't enough adjectives in the English language to do his performance justice. A tour-de-force piece of acting in every sense, one that will unquestionably lead to his 2nd straight best actor nod and maybe even a win. Jake Gyllenhaal is also Oscar worthy as the loner detective assigned to the case. His unwavering dedication and search for answers mirrors the audience's sentiment and state of mind perfectly. One of the best films of the year and as good a thriller to come out of a major studio maybe ever. GO SEE IT NOW.
