The Impossible is a harrowing film of struggle and survival, one that tells the story of one family literally ripped apart by the infamous Tsunami while vacationing in Thailand. The majority of the film follows the trials of the severely injured mother (Naomie Watts) and her eldest son, as they try to survive and make their way to a hospital. The remaining time is devoted to the father (Ewan McGregor) as he copes with his other two young boys as well as searches for his missing wife and son. Though this same story was covered in far more depth and detail by the HBO 4h movie, it does not diminish the impact of this film one bit. Though despite being a tad overly sentimental, with a heavy, overdone score, the film's emotions are raw, its special effects frightening and its performances, particularly Watts, fantastic. Well worth seeing.
