Although I had not seen the first two movies, my girlfriend made it clear that they were not really worth watching, but the improvements seen in this film make it worth a watch. The dialog is refined from what you see in the book and the effects are greatly improved. Now that the story is set, the focus is more on moving the events forward and less on the fact that vampires and werewolves exist, thus the film can focus on the more interesting parts of the story and the action. I have read the first two books and they got a little bit too much for me, but I can see that the films take out a lot of the cheesy factor (although some of the lines still make you wonder) Overall, a good film that I would recommend.
