Is bad taste, scattalogical humour, and portrayals of sexual deviantes; good reasons to dismiss a movie. Well yeah for some people... but at the same time if that movie brings you a subtle message of tolerance to the behaviours of your fellow citizens; then how bad can it be? That message by the way, may get lost with the audience by Water's shocking depictions of the sexual fringe. But I feel that Waters was pointing out that people nowadays take sex way too seriously when it comes to identifying one's self. Are you a wild girl, are you a sadist, a masochist, a top, a bottom? If you just look at personal ads, the labelling is like a store item. What happened to Hello my name is... and you say your name? Personal ads show me that the general public is (a)Very obsessed with sex; (b)Lacks a lot of self esteem;and (c)Very scared of being hurt and/or diasappointed. I can't help but think of these people as comsumers and hence "some" people (notice the PC Insert) feel that they should get what they paid for and hence feel compelled to categorize human beings into such things as blondes, brunettes, fatties, bears, tops and bottoms. But there is not a "Satisfaction Guaranteed" sticker put on that women's chest or that guy's ass. Also the fact that this movie has come out in a US Election year is even more interesting; where terrorism (social profiling used to be called racism) and gay & lesbian marriage has threatened the very fibre (a. K. a. The family) that holds America (and of course that means the world) together. I couldn't help but see a correlation with the US Election and "A Dirty Shame" But hey Waters also wants to make me laugh & he sees humour in some pretty digusting things; But if I find it shocking, what am I to do? Run away screaming? As long as I didn't get physically hurt, I can always look away. And I did close my eyes a couple of times. Some parts of this movie will so flash before my eyes at the moment I die. And to some filmmakers that's a pretty cool reaction, So Bravo Mr Waters.
