As a sequel to Sam Dunn and Scott McFadyen's first movie, Metal: a headbanger's journey, Global Metal is another great leap forward for anyone interested in how music cultures intermingle, change and are adopted at every scale from global to local. Their storytelling abilities are greatly improved and some of the images are really wonderful. Totally worth seeing on the big screen. And the music rocks and the crowd scenes are fantastic. But what really sets the both Metal and Global Metal apart from most documentaries is the intimacy and enthusiasm of the filmmakers. Dunn is an avowed metal head from Victoria, BC, and it shows. He's intensely curious about the culture and a fan at the same time. Shooting the crowd and part of the crowd. It's really charming.
