Okay, um... this movie sucks! Eddie Murphy is officially a has-been. He seems to be the only actor who can star in one flop after another after another and still maintain a career. Stallone had one bad movie and he was all but gone from the business. Ben Affleck stars in Gigli, and already they're saying his career is in jeopardy. The Haunted Mansion is basically a complete ripoff of 1999's "The Haunting", but aimed at a younger audience. Not only is the premise the same, but the story was pretty much plagiarized as well. I found it shameful. This being the first movie ever to be based on an amusement park ride, I can't help but wonder what fate we, the movie-going public, will suffer if this should happen to make some money. The future will be filled with Space Mountain and Tilt-A-Whirl movies. I shudder to think of it. There is actually one pretty good scene in this movie that happens right around the middle. In fact, I even found it somewhat eerie, and would think some kids might find it downright terrifying. This scene alone saved the film from getting a 2 or a 3. Repeat: movie sucks, Eddie Murphy needs to disappear off the face of the earth, and making movies out of rides is an even worse idea than making movies out of video games. It's too bad we only got to see Jennifer Tilly's face in this, instead of some of her other more... noticeable features. Maybe that would have kept me awake.
