There was also a sense of America joining the reality of the global village through these atrocities. If anything, that was the overall subtext I took from the film: the interconnectedness and flux of the global cultural fragment. In some ways, this film shocked me more than the aftermath of 9/11 itself. America isn't a solid untouchable divine fortress and shouldn't be so conceited as to pretend to be. America's just another country/culture trying to defend its actions in the name of its own values (be they secular or religious) Personally, I liked Sean Penn's and the Mexican's film the best.
