The "Barn" is an ill-conceived space, originally intended as a discount store I believe. It's renovation has left it a large maze of dark, low ceilinged hallways lined with empty concession stands filled with piled up cardboard, empty chocolate bar boxes and soda fountain canisters. The actual theatres are small with industrial style seating intended for use in prison cafeterias or factory lunchrooms. The screens are small with visible seams in the middle of them and 70's style ceiling fans rotate above you hung from suspended ceilings of the types reminiscent of poorly constructed rec room additions. The sound and picture quality can only be described as "primitive" but what do you want for 3 bucks? The popcorn is stale, the pop is flat and the napkins are dispensed from toilet-paper like rolls. The Film "Narc" was quite like this also. A frightening journey into the Urban rot of modern day Detroit. Ray Liotta is admirable and very intense in his role as Detective Lt. Henry R. Oak. He actually came close to making me want to soil myself a couple of times. I really enjoy any of his performances, especially when he played the role of Henry Hill in Scorcese's 1990 crime epic "Goodfellows". He's not as good in Narc but still well worth seeing. Just don't go to this Movie for any comic relief. There just isn't any and if this Movie doesn't make you want to move out the Country and live that bucolic lifestyle, nothing will.
