The acting was wonderful on all parts; you couldn't expect any less from the likes of Hilary Swank and Cate Blanchett, and the rest of the cast certainly rose to the occasion. One highlight was the fact that Katie Holmes was finally able to shed the nagging 'good-girl Joey Potter image' from her work on the series 'Dawson's Creek. ' Most of her previous movies have essentially come across as Joey Potter in a costume, but in 'The Gift, ' she portrays a snotty, rich Southern girl with a 'reputation, ' and she's very convicing. No more sweet little girl from the teenage drama. In any case, this is definitely a film worth seeing. A great movie!
