This movie follows closely to the actual writings of Dr. Thompson, without going into too much detail. Depp does a fantastic Hunter S. Thompson, (though in my opinion, didn't live up to the incredible accuracy that Bill Murray did in 'Where the Buffalo Roam') , and Benicio Del Toro played a MUCH more convincing lawyer than Peter Boyle, (who did a fine job,) But I related to Del Toro's character more than I did Boyle's. This movie has something for everyone who watches it. If you want it to be a psychadelic hay ride through the desert because you've just finished eating four grams of shrooms, it is. If it's an accurate work of art, in respect to the hilarious and amazing writings of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, it is, and if it's just another jaunt o' fun by ex-monty python star and "12 monkeys" director Terry Gilliam, than so be it."I'd never advocate drugs, alcolhol, violence or insanity to anyone... but they've always worked for me".
