This incredible movie succeeds where many have failed: its flashbacks are artful, masterful. The performances are flawless, with two main characters undergoing transformations that are both believable and seamless. Its social commentary is at once obvious and subtle, discouraging and uplifting. Somehow, everything comes together in this movie where it could have been very easy to mistep into the ridiculous or melodramatic. The only reservation I had was with the Della Pesca character, chosen to embody the corrupt forces working against Hurricane. I feel that the true horror of the conspiracy of many was lost to this somewhat dubious incarnation... but still, overall, an outstanding, moving, thought-provoking work.
