This movie tries to borrow from "Babe", but tries to make it 'hip' and 'smart' for a young, Y2K audience with flies rapping and beatboxing lame covers of songs like "Ebony and Ivory". But the worst part is the bodily substance jokes. The flies--the comic relief--land in coffee. One of them propels himself around by farting. They land in poop and celebrate by eating it. There is a pelican 'hit man' who poops on his victims. The flies get trapped in horse snot. PLEASE. Do we have to get caught in the lowest common denominator? I was caught by the pretty horses when I first saw this, but as soon as I left the theater, I started getting bothered by this. Also, many things were implausible--the animals were able to get themselves down to the racetrack to watch Stripes race, but they had to depend on the humans to let them in and out of stalls and open gates? And nobody questioned a goose, a horse, a pony, and a pelican at the big race?
