Lovely movie, cast, visuals, and depiction of the intricacies of unresolved human interactions. I felt swept away. I am disappointed in all the negative comments so felt compelled to write my first review.

One wonders how a stellar cast like this can be wasted on such a piece of tripe. I don't mind slow stories that go back and forth in time but the story simply wasn't worth the effort. Terrible, just plain terrible.

A pleasant surprise. A Masterpiece! If you like being human you will love this movie! No guns, no violence, no robots, just lots of heart and romance and real people. I LOVED IT! Beautiful! Costumes, sets, scenery, acting, screenplay, editing, lighting, direction. A perfect 10. Seamless! Take a date or go alone. You will be swept away.

This is a movie definitely worth a view. The cinematography, the costuming --i.e., the visuals alone make it worthwhile. Add to it great icons of acting and a thought-provoking story--well, it's clearly worth admission. Vanessa is amazing and the portrayal of the evening of life from various perspectives is realistic, engaging and memorable. I am so glad I saw this movie despite the negative review.

All I have to say is GREAT MOVIE. I wish that people were not so critical. Maybe we could all take things a little less seriously, like criticizing this movie and then maybe more of our lives would seem to be closer to a 10!

I hate to give a movie with so many of my favourite actresses in it and based on Michael Cunnungham's writing such a low rating, and I suppose it could've been great -- but it wasn't. The love story that's supposed to be so haunting and transformative has no substance whatsoever. There was one poignant scene between Meryl Streep and Vanessa Redgrave, a stand-out performance -- if poorly scripted -- by Hugh Dancy, and the rest of the thing was just juggling too many stories and dropping them as soon as they were thrown into the air! Not to mention -- schmaltzy as heck! Too bad.

I am glad that I did not read the reviews here, fperhaps I would have missed the movie. I am so glad that I saw it. The acting was superb. It was such a good idea to cast Redgrave's and M. Streep's daughters, first of all they look a lot like their mothers, and it made the movie so much more believable. Lovely story, lovely settings not morbid at all. Looking at people's reviews shows people have different tastes. See it for yourself and judge. Of course this is far from being the American senseless stories, with violence and emptiness. Again I recommend it to anyone who is looking for a good serious, beautiful movie.

Excellent acting. Well done performances associated with family issues surrounding death and dying of a key family member.

I thought this was the most boring movie I have ever sat through. I love the actors/actresses but the movie fell short. I would not even rent this one.

One of the top ten worst movie I have ever seen which was quite unfortunate given the cast. It had the potential of being an Oscar contender. I fell asleep during the movie, which I never do. I was actually hoping the mother would die sooner so the movie would end... Save your hard-earned dollars... Not even worth the cost of a rental.

Moving story, great play, magnificent setting, a rest from the noisy hollywood blocfkbusters. Thanks to everyone who made the movie.

Even with understanding the movie went from present to past to present throughout, the plot seemed to be all over the place and there was too much "Buddy" when you were expecting a movie about a woman. The main love affair was unbelievable as were all the relationships between the characters. No genuineness to this flick.

The idea of this movie is better than the movie itself. While the cast is full of amazing actresses (Toni Colette has to be one of my all-time favourites), the plot fell far short of my expectations. I felt like this movie was doing a bad job of trying to imitate The Notebook. The plot was predictable and boring and didn't go anywhere. On the other hand, the cinematography is beautiful in this movie. If you are looking for a movie to see with your mother or grandmother, then this is it. Also, why is this movie advertised as "with Meryl Streep"? The brilliant actress is only in the movie for about five minutes. False advertising if you ask me.

Not often seen on the big screen anymore - a story with noteworthy life lessons, excellent acting by all, beautiful character development of Toni Colette, Meryl Streep and V. Redgraves, Oscar-winning scene between Meryl Streep and Vanessa Redgraves, and closure at the end to all issues.

Overall a good movie, a very good message, the story could have been told better you had to assume some character's outcome. All the big names in it acted superbly. Probably would recommend it but if you wait for the DVD its still worth it.

Probably the worst movie I have seen in a very long time. Very poor acting, especially by Claire Danes, most probable because of the lousy screenplay. They didn't leave out one single metaphor or cliché. It was just too much! Too bad, really, as all actors have done excellent jobs in previous films!
