It was a powerful and moving reflection on the lives of Algerian/ Moroccans soldiers of WW11 fighting with the French. The ensemble cast is outstanding and the discrimination that the Africian soldiers experienced and reacted to set the stage for some of todays tension in France. While disturbing, I felt fortunate to learn about such unsung heroes. A must see.

This movie was disappointing. The few combat scenes were interesting, but the rest of the story could have been a lot shorter. There were too many scenes of racism between the French and the North African soldiers. You get beat over the head with the same thing over and over again for two hours! This was like watching an after-school special on the CBC - there was nothing subtle.

Like Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima, Indigènes portrays the mistreatment of WWII soldiers at the hands of those in power. All three films are told mostly from the personal point of view of a handful of soldiers who the audience comes to sympathize with as their stories unfold. Perhaps the fact that these films have all been released at this time in history reflects a public mood that has become cynical of the motives behind the Iraq war. Especially like Flags of Our Fathers, the film confronts the issue of rampant racism against minority soldiers both within and outside the military. The increasingly vile list of transgressions suffered by the Algerian soldiers is unfurled in a clinical, matter-of-fact and sometimes subtle style, allowing the disgust and outrage to slowly build and fester in the audience. One of the most richly ironic moments occurs when the Nazis drop leaflets encouraging the soldiers to desert to liberate themselves from such racism. The film is enhanced by the realistic yet poetic cinematography and the impressive ensemble cast.

I enjoyed the story line of this movie and how it was presented. Not your typical action/war movie. The actors performance and the cinematography was impressive. Defintely worth seeing.

The story progression was a bit slow. But the scenes themselves were well made. The same kind of movie as saving private ryan. You leave having learned a little bit more about WW2 from the african side. And it feels like you can relate to the characters.

I've won free tickets for that movie. It's a good movie, I enjoyed it, but I won't see it twice. I think that those who like World War II history movies will enjoy this one. It's a side of the history that hasn't been told a lot (before), because it's about the soldiers from Morocco and how they help to liberate France..
