It was the best star trek movie out there, and I have seen all of them, it doesnt offend the old star trek movies and series it complements it! The character I enjoyed most was Pavel Chekov, Anton Yelchins twist to the already quirky character toped it!

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Way too much coincidence and so unrealistic. Over and over you are thinking this is impossible the ods are against him meeting the exact person he needs to meet on some obscure planet.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Good, humorous movie, definitely worth seeing. However. It's nowhere near as good as the original star trek and the whole "alternate reality" thing and Vulcan being destroyed was completely unnecessary. The only good actors were Dr. McKoy and Chekov, but worth seeing anyhow.

Well crafted and enjoyable. Great attention to detail. Good use of music, and in some cases the silence of space. Dramatic opening, much humour and some nice emotional touches. Bound to be underrated, but really one of the best of the summer. Good in IMAX as well if you can catch it. Definitely a large screen movie.

Wow! I grew up watching the originals with my dad and this was a fantastic injection of sci-fi wickedness into the Star Trek franchise.

Wow. I have NEVER seen Star trek before this... was amazing. Everything from the effects to acting to the idea was very very very well done. Also, surprisingly, it all made sense... you don't have to watch star trek to get this. I recommend it.

Pretty good movie. Never watch the original series so I didn't pick up on a bunch of one-liners.

This is first prequel that actually worked. Much better acted and much more logical than any of the Star Wars 1- 3. Right up there with Wrath of Khan. A must see.

I didn't get it. Why was there 2 Mr Spocks. I've never seen any star trek's before and I don't think I will. Whats a vulcan anyways. Worst movie I ever saw. Chicago with Richard Gere now that's a movie!

A very nice take on the StarTrek franchise original. A few little character twists kept it interesting and the action as fast paced with nice impact. I like the casting choices.

I was a sceptic, since I have been a Treker since the 60's. This movie compares favourably with any other star trek movie and basically any SciFi. For me the amazing thing was that I accepteed the characters of Kirk, Spock and especially McCoy.

Star Trek with a twist, I suppose. I wonder if we will see a slew of new Star Trek movies (or a TV series) that follows this movie's ending (which now creates somewhat of an alternate Star Trek universe)? I was surprised at how much I did like this movie (more so as it deviated somewhat from all the previous Star Trek movies and TV series') I think if you are a devout Star Trek fan you may not enjoy it as much, might even call this one blasphemous! But from a purely sci-fi movie driven perspective, it is entertaining. The actor playing Spock bore an excellent resemblance to Nimoy's Spock. Mc Coy's character also had an air of familiarity. The actor playing Kirk did not impress me as much, but there were moments when I could see Shatner's Kirk in him. Good, fun movie.

I can't say I'm a big trekkie fan, yet I did enjoy this movie. It was a little hard to understand but only because I've never watched any of the other Star trek films. I don't think it was as good as everyone said it was, yet worth spending your money on.

Enjoyable. There were a couple bits of the story that could have used some work but not a big deal. Pine and Quinto were fine as Kirk and Spock and the rest were okay. Thought casting Cho as Sulu was a mistake. Not the best Star Trek movie but in the top three or four. Liked how the story preserved the original Star Trek that I'm used to.

This movie is sooo fantastic! It pieces together technology, character-based stories, a futuristic and clever scenario, humor, action, and excellent film making all in one. This movie is for everyone - whether you're a Trekkie or not. Go see it - it's just a must!!

As an "older" Trekkie, wasn't sure what to expect. Very pleasantly surprised! Very fresh approach, true to form with a little more insight into character development. Action sequences impressive. Shatner really must of been miffed that he didn't get a cameo ;-) Very goog movie!!

Never seen an episode in my life (an admittedly probably won't) but thouroughly enjoyed myself through out the whole thing. It was amazingly paced and had the perfect balance of action/sci fi/comedy. I have a feeling the whole movie would of irked me if I had been a fan of the show for reasons I can't say without spoiling it. Just go see it... nowish!

I was not grown up with Star Trek although I like this kind of subject. Before I watch this movie, I thought all those high rating are because of the Star Trek fan who will give a high score no matter what. Also to refresh my understanding about the star trek background, I watched the latest Episode of Star Trek DVD and disappointed a little bit about that story. After I watched this star trek, I have to say this is a good movie with good storyline. Even you don't name it star trek it will also be successful by itself. I expect to see another star trek now, since these day it is so hard to find a good sci-fi.

I haven't had so much fun watching a movie in a long, long time. And I've never been so excited to see a movie a second time, before it leaves theaters, or as excited to buy it on Blu-Ray the day it's released. It's a incredible looking movie, the performances are amazing and it's effects spectacular. It's funny, it's smart and has a great energy. You do not have to be a fan of previous Star Trek tv shows or movies to enjoy it, since it is a re-imagining and re-establishes the characters.

Nice tribute to the original series, with some echoes of the famous characters/actors (Kirk, Bones, Spock) but with some psychological differences. Believable enough if one accepts the timeline disruption allowing for an entire new set of plots. I don't, and also don't believe in the reality of "black holes" or "singularities" with inescapably fast-acting gravity. (For an alternate school of astrophysics look up "thunderbolts.info") I could also have done with less fisticuffs. Not too subtle, and therefore, not a "10" in my rating. But because this movie is sociologically intriguing, I don't rate the series-launching film too low either. In the context of a society that's sliding so deeply toward being tightly-controlled law-and-order and don't-step-out-of-line, Kirk's rough, stubborn, rebellious, and disobedient aspect has been made more central. His wildness almost flies in the face of the ethos I've come to expect -- Federation officers being very orderly and obeying rules (at least by lip service and most of the time) But here's this recruiting officer actively seeking out a juvenile delinquent to persuade him to join starfleet! Wouldn't the current security-obsessed America be more inclined to put Young JTK in jail for being drunk and disorderly? But maybe this is a military recruiter looking for that fighting instinct..."Fascinating", as Spock might say. This neo-old-series Star Trek may be a parable about the American psyche and ethos intrinsically expressing and even needing the leadership and actions of such an unruly personality.

I would give this a ten except it lost a point for bad comic relief. Everything else was amazing. Acting is great as the characters develop very well. Great comedic tributes to original trek. As a fan of original trek and next gen, as well as JJ Abrams with Lost, I give this the seal of approval. Saw it three times in theaters.

The special way the crew start up together is amazing. The only disapointment was the Young Spock having human feelings. He should never be shown like this. The special effects were wonderful and should be an academy award nomination at least.

You dont have to be a big sci-fi fan to enjoy this movie. It was very entertaining. Well done J. J. and you didnt have to keep us there all day. I find alot of movies are just not edited properly, in other words, THEY ARE TOO LONG. This movie was perfect, 2 hrs, no dragged out scenes. Good action, but not over the top (like transformers)

Great new spin on the Star Trek franchise. Loved the interaction amongst the characters showing them in all their flaws and insecurities. The action and the humor were also great to watch. Hopefully this will bring more movies in the future.
