I thought this movie might be a real downer, instead it is one of the triumph of the human spirit. A rare movie that changes the way you view life.

An exploration into the good of humanity that can only emerge from such tragedy. An uplifting tale of sadness. Must see. And the french girls are super cute.

Somehow not as moving as it ought to be. Maybe a little French detachment, but wonderful nonetheless.

Très ennuyeux à voir... Too boring.. Attention : The trailer doesn't represent the film. Actually it is mostly filmed trough his blinking eye, the image is always moving, it makes headaches... And passages are tooo long. Better to read the book.

Weeks after seeing it I am still smiling at the wonderful voyage it granted me. Leave to Julian Schnabel and the French to craft an experience that does not manipulate to try to get you to feel something. This film is a train ride through someone's experience that most of us can only barely imagine. Through brilliant direction, cinematography and acting you go through the high's and low's, experience frustration, sadness, fear and humour and somehow in the end, you end up pleasantly in the "middle". For the first time in years I did not want to get out of my seat at the end. I just sat there for a few minutes staring at the credits thinking "Thank God there are people out there who know how to truly craft a film" One of my favourites of the past 10 years!

Exceptional direction. Touching story but never cheesy. Surely one of the best films of the year.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Not only visually breathtaking, but having some amazing lead and supporting performances make this one of the most powerful biopics I've ever seen. It's a deeply inspiring film and I don't see how Schnabel can lose Best Director of the year at this year's Oscars. His visual interpretation of the autobiography of Bauby is incredible. We're made to feel and see Bauby's experiences of being trapped in his own body through a rare type of paralysis. I knew the movie worked as soon as I got really mad when a hospital orderly got in the way of a football game on TV and I expressed anger at the same time as Bauby. Also the way the director shows you that Bauby is starting to cry is amazing. A strong emotional experience. Not to be missed. Strongly recommended.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Succeeds in making us ask the question:what if I was trapped like that? Extraordinary cinematography. Elegant approach to a most tragic event. But how could this selfish man not change even at the end? How could he treat his "wife" as if she was not there?

I think this movie should win for best foreign movie at the Academy awards. The French really know how to succeed in creating good movie about a not so usual subject!

Given the reviews, I had high expectations of this movie. As such, I was a little disappointed. My 'willing suspension of disbelief' just wouldn't kick in and I just couldn't get emotionally involved. Don't assume you're going to love this movie and don't feel guilty if you don't.

I found this film difficult to watch. I am sure I will be thinking about Mr. Bauby for a long time. This is a thoughtful telling of a very courageous story. Brilliant film making.
