I really enjoyed most of the movie. There was enough mystery and suspense and the acting was very good. I would recommend it, even if it may leave you wishing for a better ending...

Not even Ewan McGregor can save this movie, rent it with a free rental or wait for someone else to. Not bad performance for Michelle Williams thou.

DVD: "Deception"
This is a good movie, definitely worth seeing... BUT and this is a big BUT. Warning: the ending is terrible, badly edited, and just plain doesn't really fit with the rest of the movie. The only other thing I will say about the ending is that if you read up on the movie online, you will then understand what happened and why the ending is so terrible. That being said, the rest of the movie, so about 90 minutes of it, is just awesome. The acting is very good, the mood is perfectly set with a combination of a great score and awesome cinematography, and the story really keeps the viewer interested. Kudos to Jackman and McGregor for their performances. Mucho kudos to the director for delivering a solid noir-thriller for the first 90 or so minutes. Too bad about the last 10-15 minutes...

Horribly predictable 'thriller? ' with one of the worst scripts (soap-opera calibre) I've ever seen. The plot twists were making us laugh out loud in the theatre. Reminded me very much of Sharon Stone's Sliver. I felt just as annoyed watching this movie which falls apart like a train wreck (does that expression even make sense in this context? ) 2/3rds through the movie. And if the movie title isn't enough of a spoiler, the frequent moments of obvious foreshadowing will certainly spoil any surprises. Directorial debut? ORLY? I never would have guessed. The acting is SO bad, it's unbelievable. There is this one extended scene between Michelle Williams and Hugh Jackman that makes you wish for death. Even Ewan MacGregor is terrible. Michelle Williams goes from looking really beautiful in some scenes to looking more like Michelle Williams in others. Very confusing. Seriously though, being lazy enough to name this movie," Deception" is like calling "The Village," "The Wilderness Reserve." Not as bad as Shutter for worst movie of the year but right on its heels. Definitely not recommended.

This was a questionable movie that I had second thoughts of attending but seeing the trailer bit into my curiosity. I'm glad I went but it was what I expected. It was dark and you had to stay to see it all. The plot was pretty easy to figure out and not too many surprises were in store. I would NOT allow my 14 year old to attend btw... quite a bit of nudity but that's my own personal opinion.

I thought this movie was going to be a crazy boss movie but I was wrong. It seem like something I have watched before. I didn't like it very much. But it had an interesting story line.

This movie was very boring, it seemed interesting at first, but then it just becomes a useless story that doesn't go anywhere! Very predictable. I would not recommend this movie even if your renting it.

OK... I totally love Hugh Jackman (Logan) But this movie was painful to watch. It's not that it was bad. It just seem lame and slow. I didnt like it, I was dissapointed. But I still love Logan!

I love Hugh. My daughter loves Ewan. We thought - perfect - one for you, one for me and a decent premise. It had so much potential but very little of it was realized. They were beautiful but the movie was clumsy, uneven and ultimately unsatisfying. Wait for the DVD and a night where it is too cold to go anywhere else.

Pretty bad all around. I found the story to move slowly and in weir pieces. By the end of the movie I just wanted it to end and the worst part is that all the characters were dull and I didn't care for any of them! It was one of those movies that seemed to go on forever. The trailer was more intersting than the whole movie was.

Generally speaking it is an interesting movie. Slow at the beginning but acting from H. Jackman and E. McGregor are very good. I was hoping for more twists and turns. Wait for the DVD otherwise see it at theaters on budget day or matinée.

It was very cliché'd and ultimately went the wrong direction with the whole thing. I had a lot of fun with the first half though, until the plot really picked up. If you like Ewan McGregor you ought to probably see it.

Take Derailed, add a little Swordfish and Entrapment, and take out any subtlety and voila, you have Deception. While there aren't any particularly giant holes in the plot, Deception is lazy. You are told that Jackman's character is an evil mastermind, but the writers obviously couldn't think of a scenario to put in the movie that would support this claim so they have a pseudo-random sex partner just tell you that. The police involvement lacks any real conviction of acting or plot development other than the vague threat that they may think MacGregor's character is to blame for one woman's death. The sex scenes in the movie after the first one seem highly gratuitous. They don't show John having "relations" with the older Wall street maven, but then show blips of encounter after encounter with hot, young women (I use the term hot loosely) It feels like the lack of good script made the director say," Well we gotta fill the time with something so it might as well be T&A to get people in the seats." Jackman's performance is that of someone going through the motions of sleaze, but hardly convincing. Williams' performance is at times some of the best in the film, and at times some of the cheesiest (of which I mostly blame the director and the script) MacGregor's acting is the least convincing because he takes a page directly from Down With Love, but here it seems contrived and jarring. His character patterns some later behaviors after Jackman's character, which is intended to seem clever but again merely ends up as contrite and lazy. This is one of those situations that feel like the actors themselves realized partway in that this would not be a great movie and thus gave up. This movie should be called Disappointment not Deception. Three decent to excellent actors depending on your opinion of them with an interesting concept, but so poorly executed that I would not watch it again even if someone paid me to.

Another move made from other movie trailers. Gosh it's shameful how little soul goes into the creation of this sort of thing. How do they sleep at night?
