A very rare movie with a load of life's lessons for all. Sometimes pain and suffering allows humans to become stronger and this film shows that the human spirit is stronger than any pain and suffering and that we have the power to keep on getting up. And the music was brilliant! Bravo!

The Unknown Woman is Irena (Xenia Rappoport), an emigrant who fled Eastern Europe and has moved to a Northern Italian city. She lives amidst ghosts of the past and a search for the present. Irena seeks a specific job in a building complex where one particular family appears to be her target or rather goal to work for. She cleans hallways and stairs until noticed by Valeria (Claudia Gerin) and Donato (Pierffancesco Favino) who have a young daughter Tea (Clara Dossena) We learn slowly through flashbacks why this family is so vital to Irena and what terror and brutality she endured in Eastern Europe. Each revelation brings us to a better understanding of her motivations and determination to be close to the Adacher family. The script is strong. I cannot just define it as a drama, because that is a vague term. It's also a disturbing film with a warm touch (a heartbreaking plot that twists in a good way)

WOW what a movie! If you are a sensitive at heart, be forewarned, some scenes are difficult, especially if you are a women. Definitely not an American commercial product, it's a co-production Italy-France. It's subtitled, but it’s easy going reading wise. The music is special and so is the story line. It's the kind of movie where you don't want to go to the washroom. It's suspenseful and it will keep you on your toes. At the very least worth 8½!
