The storyline of this movie is quite amazing, especially since it's a true story. However, I believe that it could have been so much better. They didn't do the story justice or build any of the characters in any sort of depth. The acting was almost comical at times and we found ourselves laughing... which isn't something you expect in a WWII movie when someone dies. We watched the whole 2+ hours of it though, so it couldn't have been THAT bad.

I think Daniel Craig should finally go back to school to study acting. For me he is a real movie spoiler, can't help it:(

I loved this movie. It was very realistic and portrayed the bielskis very well. Daniel Craig, along with the other brothers, was phenomenal. Very suspenseful.

Great. Made us think about what has happened and the idea of... what might life look like if even parts of the Bibles 'end times' are true! WOW. What nightmares past and even now in some countries.

It was a really moving movie. Good acting, and a really great plot based on events that really happened. It really captured the sadness that swept over occupied Poland.

This was an interesting story but it really dragged on. Maybe that was to drive home the point about the time of suffering? We were so tired of the woods by the end. I think it would have been better with more editing. Daniel Craig was decent (Does he really speak Polish? ) but kind of cold, it was hard to find empathy for him with that stony face.

A wonderful movie! A realistic portrayal of the struggles of the jews living in the forest (partisans) during the holocaust.

DEFIANCE is worth watching not only because it is historical, but also because the story of the Jews, God's Chosen People, is an ongoing one. Heroes in Jewish history may come and go, but the moral remains the same: God protects and preserves for Himself a remnant of men that are strengthened to fight and overcome their enemies, and continue to thrive in the midst of almost hopeless circumstances. This movie is also a good study of the psychology of leadership, how it is formed and maintained, and how it is given to those who put others first, which is something that should inspire us all to do. The faith that overcomes is the faith that loves.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] It is beyond any doubt that actor Daniel Craig can act! ; As a matter of fact, it seams to be almost a unanimous opinion of fans around the world that he is at least one of the best Bonds ever (some even think that he's the best one so far)! Although in his last Bond movie he showed more emotion than in the first one, the tough lisenced to kill character of James Bond does not give him much of an oportunity to show lots of emotion, but this was before he was chosen for the role of 'Tuvia' in this movie which in my opinion didn't get a fair evaluation by movie critics! This very touching epic World War 2 drama which is a great example of triumph of the spirit over evil, Craig plays the role of one of three Jewish European brothers, together with Liev Shreiber as 'Zus' and Jamie Bell as 'Asael, portrays the narrow escape from death of 'Zus' and his brothers, at the hands of the Nazis in war torn Poland in 1941, subsequently vowing to avenge the deaths of their loved ones by launching a desperate battle against the forces that seek to exterminate their entire race! The 'final solution' Engineered by the Nazis is in full effect, and the jews of Eastern Europe are being slaughtered wholesale! Having played in those woods since childhood, the brothers have a distinct advantage over their adversaries, and soon decide that simply surviving is not enough! In order to make a difference, they must take action! 'Tuvia' has become the de facto leader of the group, but he is somewhat reluctant to take on such a heavy responsibility and his brothers think that his idealistic plan will ultimately bring about the group's downfall!. Does it?.. Well I wouldn't want to spoil the ending for you since I recommend that you see this very interesting movie! It is in my opinion that this is Daniel Craig's best performance ever! Let's see what you think!

It ain't a bad movie but the main flaws are: the story line moves along too quickly, it's predictable and you never really get attached to anyone; there is little character development. Otherwise, it's worth seeing, but don't pay much for it.

I like the movie but it seem to lack the drama and action that was believed to be in it. The story line was very good the characters was done well. I just feel the movie was lacking the realistic story, ,,

I thought it was a great war movie. It had me on the edge of my seat from start to end. I could nitpick about a few things but it would be unnecessary as it's very good overall. It had me thinking about all the misfortunes and torment these people must have gone through and how my little problems and challenges seem so trivial compared to them. If you don't have expectations of seeing a masterpiece of the genre like Apocalypse Now or Full Metal Jacket, you will be pleasantly surprised. It's not perfect but it's very good.

This movie is the excellent depiction of a true story, showing how people can regain their dignity by fighting back their invaders and oppressors. The Belski brothers were able to create a safe haven for thousand of Jewish people facing extermination. Not all of them lived to see liberation from Nazis, but all of them lived or died free men an women.

The movie supports the worst antisemitic notion saying when Russians were fighting, Jews were hiding. It portrays Russians as antisemites and drunkards failing to point out that most of them became partisans by choice, they could stay home with their wives but they went to the forest instead. And what would have happen if everybody hid away in the forest like Bielsky Jews? What would have happen to Jews and what would have happen to the World? There were at least 30 thousand Jewish partisans fighting in Belarussian forests. Why not to make a movie about them instead?

This movie was a totally unexpected surprise. I enjoyed the historical aspect to the film, as well as the human relationships which they developed. A must see for people who enjoy historical/fiction.

This movie is worth watching for what it is, A Hollywwod version of a human miracle in depserate times. In no way is it close to the real life of the Bielski Otriad, just read the book ( excellent) and you 'll se huge differences. But again it is a very interesting movie, no Schindler list material or equivalent though, Daniel Craig gives a good performance.

This is a great story of survivor, determination and human sacrifice. You get a sense of what it must have been like. The stories within are obviously fiction but the event was historic. A really good movie.

While what the brothers did was admirable, the movie did not do them justice. Their story is worth telling, but not in this long, drawn out and boring fashion. I had trouble staying awake, odd considering it was a war movie and should have had more action and less rambling, senseless and boring dialogue. Very boring, give it a miss.

It was definitely a great movie that everyone must see. Great plot, great acting. As a person whose parents are from Russia and whose grandfather took part in the resistance during World War II, I’ve head a lot about how this kind of thing really happened. The reality was probably a little harsher than it was shown in the movie, but it was still pretty close to the truth.

I don't know what all the negative reviews are all about. This film is fantastic. Liev Schreiber is amazing. The action is intense. The story is interesting and well-told. Ed Zwick yet again impresses with his 4th film I'd put in my top 50, if not top 25 (The Last Samurai, Glory and Blood Diamond)

I'm not surprised that some who have submitted reviews believe that this story is implausible. I guess they don't have parents or any relatives who actually participated in the resistance movement during the war and lead very similar acts of bravery. They've never lived with the post-tramatic syndrome that still haunts so many people of that generation. I'm glad that this story was told, because it speaks for the many other stories that remain silent, known only to us who are the sons and daughters and grandchildren of those who participated in the events and managed to live to tell the tale--although many could never actually talk about it because the memories were too painful.

Well told story about real people. The story is about survival in its basest form. Acting by Daniel Craig and Liev Scrieber is outstanding. Not just another WWII flick.

I don't know why this film hasn't gotten better reviews; I suppose it is because there are so many note worthy films out there right now. But still this was a really well done film. I must say I had read some reviews and went in with a low expectation, and came out amazed and profoundly impacted. I can't quite put my finger on what exactly made me love this movie... the original screenplay (ok I know your thinking a WWII movie original? ) but it really was about a group of people surviving WWII in a most amazing way- very inspiring. Daniel Craig did amazing (totally surprised me)- I didn't even think once about 007 during the film:) It is no Pianist, or Schindlers list (don't expect that) but it is defiantly up there, when it comes to re-telling an amazing story of humanity, loyalty, love and survival. It brought you back to the basics of what life is really about. Go see it.

True to Hollywood form, only one side of a story is told. Its basically the same jewish victims, against the evil Nazi monsters. Its justified for these people in the forrest to kill ALL Nazis. Well, that no less horrible then Hitler wanted ALL jews dead for the actions of a few. Perhaps the Bielski Brothers should have seen the film Valkyrie (sarcasm) to learn not all Nazis were evil (truth) If found this fim one sided because again, its all justified, and the jews are all heros. But the Bielski Brothers had a hand in their own atrocities of ethnic Poles, and this film says nothing of the matter. Whether is Gaza, or Holocaust, one people always come out on top perspective wise. Such bias is a shame.
