A sprawling, magnificent, dark and beautiful movie of a dystopian "1984" sort of future, where everything is backwards, upside down, and choking with bureaucracy at every turn. Jonathan Pryce is great as a bumbling idiot who is just trying to do the right thing and is thwarted at every turn. Katherine Helmond is fantastic (and surreal) as his overbearing mother, and the movie is a pure visual extravaganza. Watch for a cameo from Robert De Niro that almost steals the show, and some vicious satire on the process of government and business. A brilliant movie that was almost never made (reading the story behind the production is almost as entertaining as the movie itself!!), from a true genius (Terry Gilliam) at the top of his game.

A great, bizarre romp through the mind of Terry Gilliam between his amazing Monty Python time and his more off times over the last 10 years or so. Really wonderful future distopian insanity, hilarious cameo by Robert de Niro, perfect Kafka-as-British-civil-servant performance by Jonathan Pryce, fantastic art direction.

This is a timeless masterpiece that will be studied for generations to come. Visually and intellectually stunning, this movie brings light and passion to the dark struggle of alienated desperation in a modern dystopia.

Flat! It's one of that movie for which, after the end you are the same you were before the beginning: nothing to learn, nothing to talk about, no emotions during it, no memories after it! It doesn't contain anything clearly bad, but, nevertheless, it doesn't contain anything good too: it is just time lost, three hours of time lost!!!

It is a hilarious black comedy that pokes fun at out-of-control bureaucracy and technology gone mad, and our dememted society with it's obssesion with interfering with our aging. It made fun of much of what is demented about our culture and things that can potentially get way out of hand should we not recoginse them. The Big Brother thing slaps you in the face. It points out the direction we are heading in and the fact that we may already be very close to that reality. Anyone who doesn't get it is missing out on laughing at their own screwed up culture.

A great movie to watch mindlessly, an even better one to watch with your mind engaged. Watch it at least three times, I guarantee it'll be different each time."We're all in this together": a peculiarly British take on the mess of modern society.

Very good, it applies to today's reality and what's currently happening in the US. Terrorism, big brother, fear, red tape, processes, all this sounds very familiar... we're in trouble...

Brazil is a movie that has always amazed me with it's crazy plot twists and amazing visuals. Its story is fairly similar to 1984, except in this society everything is controlled by massive amounts of paperwork. Well worth your money several times over.

Brilliant all the way 'round. I saw it only once on video a couple years ago and was amazed, never bored for a moment. An image that lasts is the lady in the office with the skeletal-like metal structure that's supporting (or lifting) her hands--so to avoid carpeltunnel syndrome I'm assuming--as she types on and on in a darkly shadowed office. Another favorite is DeNiro being consumed by paperwork--literally. At times during the movie I wanted to visit that bizzare place--and realize now, years later, I may already be there, working for an insurance company as a documentation specialist. If insanity is Sam's escape, then movies (great ones) and Prague, not Brazil, are mine.

This film was great. I note most of the slams seemed to be from teens who lack even basic gramar skills -- enough said regarding their criticisms. Wake up, kids, this was a warning that went unheeded and now we are almost there.

Brazil... What can you say? Interesting, often funny... but because it was good or bad? While watching, I asked myself "how did this movie get made?" However, I believe it's one of those films that has a lot more going on between the lines than it does on the surface. To fully appreciate the film (to whatever extent it deserves) one must really think about its messages; implied or not. One warning though: Don't go into it expecting Monty Python charm because you will be disappointed.

I loved this movie, but it's certainly not for everyone. Part of the fun is the sheer "What the heck is going on? " factor, and there are multitudes of subtle references to keep it entertaining. This movie has become an "in-joke" among my friends.

This movie is brilliant, at least to those who understand it and can appreciate the symbolism of it. I noticed many people giving it a bad review, and I feel those people most likely simply did not understand it, this movie is not for everyone, it's a movie for people of deep thought and philosophy.

This film a masterpiece, I've seen it so many times, but the atmosphere is so cool that it is always a pleasure to watch it again and again. References to Kafka a certainly some of its numerous qualities. A must see!

It´s a great movie for me; it shows the struggle between the individual and the huge bureaucrecy of the established system, the fight for freedom in an oppresive society. The movie does it with a great sense of humour.

I thought it was enjoyable if you don't try to make sense of everything or give a running commentary. Just enjoy it, process, discuss, go with it. The differences between all the versions are intriguing -- do some internet research to fully appreciate it.

Terry Gilliam is a genious! He took the '1984' storyline and added a bizarre twist. Watching this movie once doesn't do it justice, simply because the audience has to pay such close attention at times to follow what is going on. And the more you watch it, the more things you pick up, so it's a must see over and over again! Brilliant!
