Cute and witty, but only if you like dry, British humour. The storyline unfolds leisurely, with a few surprises along the way. Not as good as Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day, but about as good as any of the old (40's/50's) Noel Coward adaptations I've seen.

I enjoyed the movie, the audience around me also seems to enjoy it. No academy award winning but kept me entertained from start to finish with this off beat family.

This film is not worth anyone's time or money. I love British films and their sense of humour, and I love viewing stately English homes. I quite like the actors cast in this film. None of that helped. This isn't even worth renting! If you are interested in English productions, you'd be far better off to stay home and watch PBS.

It's just a very weak production. The cast includes some strong actors, but the result is terrifically poor. Quite seriously, this film may not even make it 2 weeks on a DVD rental shelf.

Disappointing, with only the saving grace of the requisite lovely visuals of an English stately home, as found in so many other BBC films. It's a puzzle how and why this one made it to the big screen. The familiar actors could and did sleep their way through yet another one of the genre. The climactic and supposedly torrid tango scene was unbelievably limp, whereafter the whole pointless exercise quickly ground down to the inevitable conclusion.

This movie is well crafted and has a convincing plotline. While it is not a masterpiece, it is definitely worth seeing, especially for those with an interest in the 1920s.

This is a middling remake of a good play. Unfortunately the director missed the qualities that made the play successful. It is no longer has the tight succinct language of the play. The setting and acting is excellent.

Terrifically witty, I thoroughly enjoyed myself from start to finish. So much so that I went back a week later to see it again. Notice all of the amazingly subtle and often ironic details going on in the background as well; terrific use of reflective surfaces... amazing cinematography. Also the music selections were hilarious if you are paying attention. Finally to quote the immortal Comic Book Guy: Best CanCan Ever!

One has to appreciate Noel Coward, British humour and good acting to enjoy this film. Sure, there were a few boring bits, but... all in all, it's well worth seeing.

The movie was only so so, but there were many moments that I enjoyed. I have to say that Jessica Biel was the best thing in this movie. Kristin Scott Thomas and Colin Firth rehashed the same tried & true Brit personas they do so well, but which came off as predictable and boring in this film. The film is an adaptation of a Noel Coward play and it definitely had a stagey quality. Plus I find his renowned wit was off in this... not quite so sharp... the one-liners really weren't that funny.

I enjoyed this movie. It has a thoroughly British sensibility that might not appeal to all viewers. The banter is witty and quick. So quick that I'm sure I missed a few punchlines. If you like period piece films and a dry sense of humor this may be for you. It is not all fun a games though, with a couple of weighty plot devices that ground the film.

I can't believe this film was actually made and that some of the big name stars were in it! It was painfully boring, so much so that after 30 tortuous minutes I walked out. I never do that! HATED IT. YUCK! DON'T EVEN RENT IT!

It had a few giggles if you get the jokes. The story could of run much tighter for it to have been a good movie.

I went to see this and found it incredibly boring. I didn't "get" it at all, if you aren't a big fan of British cinema do not waste your money on this.

This movie is worth seeing for the tango scene alone. Brilliant acting, great script.

Jessica Biel is a very bad actress, and should not have been cast in this movie. I went for Kristen Scott Thomas, who seemed miscast, but carried off her part with dignity. The movie struggles to know what it wants to be; it's not very funny but it tries hard. The two sisters were lame, but the can-can scene was a little funny. I am surprised it got made, totally outdated humor and nothing to say about today's world.

This is a smart comedy, well played by all, with some real laughs as well as serious undertones. Kristin Scott Thomas, and Colin Firth shine. A nice diversion, that will leave you smiling.

Jessica Biel has the beauty and sensuousness for her role as the American femme-fatale but doesn't really achieve the edge. She does challenge a brittle Kirsten Scott Thomas for her matriarchical crown. But the Siren/Medusa conflict can't transcend the declining country squire conventions. The high point in the film is a remarkable tango before the stuffed shirts -- Colin Firth and Jessica just smoulder. But these criticisms are minor. Jessica is one of the great undiscovered female leads in Hollywood; her potential was revealed in 'The Illusionist'. She just needs to drop her imitation of Renee Zellweger's kewpie doll smile, dig into her Shadow and bring the smouldering edge she showed on the dance floor forth as a fulsome Venus with a stiletto in her boot. When she does that she will knock'em flat.

I saw easy virtue at the TIFF last year and I'm so happy there is a movie I can go watch and enjoy without having distruction, explosions, convoluted sexual content, bad language and stupidity at every turn. This is a pleasant movie and I hope many people go to see it.
