I was thoroughly disappointed with this film. Although Jeff Bridges was impressive as the resident psychiatrist, Kevin Spacey's performance was somewhat lackluster throughout the duration of the movie. Although it had its moments, I found it basically pretty boring.

I thought this movie was built up really well. When the truth is revealed, you get a very clear understanding of how people deal with emotional issues.

Does Kevin Spacey ever "suck"? He has done it again. Yet another stellar performance from the guy who got away with murder in Usual Suspects. Hey, a movie with an actual story, how about that? Now add Jeff Bridges and a rather unique plot, and you get K-Pax. K-Pax was very entertaining, and even leaves you thinking when the curatins fall at the end of the show. Not quite as emotionally stirring as E. T. (come on, admit it!! You cried when you thought E. T. died!) , but it does do a good job of getting those tear ducts to open, even if just s smidgen. Those of you going to see this movie expecting an alien conspiracy film, will be disappointed. Those of you who like solving puzzles will enjoy this one. All in all, if you don't expect it to be a Sci-Fi movie (thus avoiding afore mentioned disappointment) then you will be very pleased that you spent the 11$.

Have you ever wished you could approximate the qualities of light and evolve at the speed of your desire? Have you ever seen your sentiment presented on film only to go home with you in the form of caffeinated chicken-scratch ideas on how you’d do a better job on your script – because once again, your ideological dream movie didn’t get made? Why don’t I start by telling you what happened on planet K-PAX and you can judge for yourself whether or not it’s in your best interests to travel 1000 Light Years to see it. A planet full of vegetarians that think twice before reproducing because the process hurts so much; a species that practices Buddhistic principles of forgiveness and compassion, lives for hundreds of Earth years, and has mastered light travel; each of its members by the time they were 5 have absorbed a cultural “common sense” a thousand decades ahead of us on Earth: Welcome to Planet K-PAX. An ambitious, inspiring glimpse into the beautiful potential of benign life elsewhere watching over our shoulders and giving us a boost of support when we need it, K-PAX provokes the deepest insecurities and most profound intuitions about our species’ faltering existence. The latest attempt from Iain Softley (Wings of the Dove, Hackers) aimed for the stars but didn’t make it past the stratosphere. I’ll point the finger at each of the six producers whose fingerprints are all over Gene Brewer’s celluloid novel. A script this edgy and brilliant doesn’t just spontaneously combust an hour after lift-off for no good reason. It’s not clear whether the malfunction began with Charles Leavitt’s (The Mighty) screenplay, or a disagreement between producers over what would make a palatable ending for the box office. What is clear is that the last 45 (post-hypnosis) minutes bring the trip to the heavens into a disappointing orbit through the biological psycho-comfort we sit through in films like What Dreams May Come and The Green Mile. It’s like they tried to get us to believe that the sun really does revolve around the Earth… after dedicating the first half of the film to Einstein’s theory of general relativity. All the charm and American Beauty of Kevin Spacey can’t fix the last two lines of this script denied its proper resolution. They took a liberating ideology, turned it into a function of character, then diminished the role of that character to furnish a just-barely-plausible ending. If Morpheus had turned out to be an Agent, and the entire Matrix became a dream because Neo took the red pill instead of the blue…you understand the betrayal of script I’m talking about. Don’t get me wrong, K-PAX is worth the thirteen dollars for most. But if American Beauty felt like that needed breath of fresh air, and you love the satisfaction of solving Twelve Monkeys-type plot puzzles, and you’re looking for conviction that you really CAN get your script produced, I might save yourself the frustration. Maybe on K-PAX commercial movies fulfill their subversive potential and viewers don’t need to clamor for stronger doses to escape their existential condition the way we do. Maybe K-PAXIANS can absorb information radiation and instantly use its evolutionary energy. Of course, I know K-PAX isn’t really out there in constellation Lyra… it’s the stuff of human imagination…which brings me to my point…K-PAX is right here on Earth. But the Institution of Hollywood is abusing its supply of human imagination in the hopes of attaining the impossible goal of approximating the “speed of cinematic light”. Instead, if it stopped thwarting the intentions of great screenwriters, it could realize projection of its films at multiple speeds of c'est (see?) , and we could all stop watching great ideas and start living them instead. Kevin Spacey beam me up!

I really enjoyed the movie and will see it again soon to make sure I get every detail that is there. Actors are good. Plot is very good. The text is refreshing especially when "universal rules" and "universal knowledge" are touched upon by the alien. Actually the word "alien" is a poor choice to describe Kevin Spacey's caracter. He is simply a mentally destroyed human being housing an entity that came from beyond our realm of understanding... I loved it and appreciated every minute and every line and every image of it.

Actually pretty good. A lot better than I expected from the totally non-descript title. Kevin Spacey is always great to watch and the relationship between Spacey and Jeff Bridges was well developed. Good opening titles too.

Kevin made a good decision in doing this one. It's not the best but it is a fun, smart ride of a movie. Good lesson on astronomy, too. I just don't understand why I keep on being disturbed by how Jeff Bridges talk, like gargling or something. Perhaps it is just me.

The storytelling, character development and direction were all top notch here. Spacey and Bridges played their characters extremely well, once again solidifying Spacey as an Oscar contender. If you're you want a movie apart from the action and comedy genres, you should definitely go see this movie to get your brain functioning again.

FANTASTIC film. While I have heard many people complain about how it leaves you hanging, to me that was the point. For once a Hollywood movie did not take for granted that I have a mind of my own and spell every detail out for me. Don't miss it.

This is quite an amazing movie, all in all. Fans of Kevin Spacy rejoice, here is another fresh performance. The movie will leave you thinking for a long time after seeing it, much like American Beauty or Pay it Forward did. As with those movies, K-PAX makes the end result somewhat feel less important then the road taken to get there. Along the way, you may even be surprised at how much you'll *want* to believe in aliens, interstellar travel through beams of light, and other exotic sci-fi elements. This is not a perfect movie, some parts are probably a little too long or slow, and the music isn't as inspiring as it should have been. There is also no moment of sudden suprise at something unexpected à la "oh my godddddd... " but K-PAX will still leave you with a smile and a feeling of something completed correctly.

Kevin Spacey can carry any weakness in a film, I think American Beauty and Usual Suspects proved that. The man is a screen presence, not just a star. Not to mention, a hottie, as they say. Jeff Bridges was good, but he always seems so wooden to me, luckily he's easy on the eyes. My biggest complaint was this was about 20 minutes too long, it dragged which is unfortunate because there was a good movie buried in there. But on video or DVD that problem would be, poof, gone. I always have to smile sadly when I watch Spacey because an ex of mine started dreaming about him at one point, that should have been a clue. But who can blame him, he's charisma the the tenth degree.
