What the heck? A zombie movie with no Zombies? Ok I get what they were trying to do. Would a better 30 minute episode on The Twilight Zone. Now I hear this one part of a trilogy. Wha?

I'll be able to say 'I've seen Pontypool!? It's a weird and funny movie, I laughed out loud more than several times, but I may have been the only one in the room (I guess they didn't appreciate it's humour) The story line started out ok, but it got somewhat ridiculous when Dr. Mendez (Hrant Alianak) showed up. Great role for Stephen McHattie playing Grant Mazzy, the radio host. It's a difficult movie to rate... I enjoyed it, but don’t pay mush for it, just rent it for fun!

I usually avoid horror films because I am so easily frightened by them, but Pontypool is quite different. Most of the bloody stuff is told, not seen. There is very little visual horror, and even that is not very scary (no special effects or ugly make-up) The three main characters are complex and believeable, and the actors playing them are simply great. It is very pleasant to watch Grant, Sydney and Laurel-Ann interact, there is good chemistry between them. Since this "zombie" tale is not very credible (can viruses be transmitted through words?), you immediately understand this whole thing is a metaphor. I also felt I would have to see this film many times to really get it. Canadians watching this will have a lot of fun with cultural references (separatists and so on) and feel quite at home with MacDonald's unpretentious yet stunningly original film.

I dug this flick a lot. Kept me in suspense, kept me guessing - the whole way through. Some folks are bummed out by the lack of explanation. The fact is, none of the characters knew exactly what was going on - so why should the audience. McHattie delivered clever and intelligent and intriguing dialogue playing the role of bull[...]-artist-dj to the max. He really delivered. It did get lost occasionally, especially in the middle act - but the climax made up for it. That tea kettle shriek made me cringe - and I don't cringe easily. It is a thoughtful horror movie with a really unique twist. I'd recommend it highly. As a writer of horror fiction who has been forced to sell his work primarily in the US and the UK I am really excited to see high quality thoughtful horror like this being made here in Canada. Two gnawed-off thumbs up! Steve Vernon.

I find this film to be just fantastic, people seem to be getting up and arms about this because they read into it wrong and were expecting something, but got something else. No reason to get your hopes up... just change up your expectations a little. To be clear, this is not a zombie film... in-fact the "living dead" are referred to as "conversationlists". This movie is a thriller/drama... just with a horrific twist... like a silence of the lambs. I found the pace lovely, the acting was VERY solid, and it is a very original/unique idea. The filming is amazing, and considering it was all filmed in one location... well it looks pretty stunning. Check it out... you will be entertained... just don't go expecting dawn of the dead, and you will have a great time!

I'd been hearing about this movie for a while and didn't read any reviews because I wanted to see it fresh. I found the idea intriguing but I wish some of it had been done better. It's a zombie movie for intellectuals and I can live with that, and even appreciate it. What bothers me is that the language cause is so un-understandable. I am anglo. I went with my francophone boyfriend. Neither of us could figure it out. I'm going to read the book and see if it makes more sense (which of course flies in the face of the 'nonsense' salvation seems to rest on) Or not. As to the zombie element, it could have been much better, and the girl was the best, and the brief encounter with all the zombie townsfolk. This could have been a great movie. It was so close and the things that don't work could have been fixed easily it seems to me. Still, the idea (if incomprehensible on a concrete level) is unique and that makes the movie worth seeing. The acting is pretty good. I say, support it. I also say to the writer/director, next time, get some feedback from horror film viewers. This is billed as horror so you need to keep it true to the horror genre and in this case zombie tropes. Too much slides for the intellectual focus, which is not why most horror film lovers watch horror films. Sure, keep it in but be true to the necessary expectations too.

Over and above the nonsense of such an infection and the unwarranted enlightment of the doctor as to its cause, this film has redeeming power. The tension is there, and McHattie is the man for the job. I have a problem with the ending. This kind of resolution is common enough nowadays. The audience need not be installed in the director's chair to finish his movie.

This movie was terrible. There are no redeeming moments. Way too slow, and almost zero plot development. I'm surprised it received distribution.

A Bruce McDonald film at his best. You will laugh and hang on to your seat at the same time. I love Pontypool, but wouldn't want to live there!

I didnt find this as stimulating as most did apparently. It started out good, creepy. But I was disappointed by the end. I felt it was trying to be something else. The zombie genre is dead now... let it rip.

I dont know why people loved it enough to give it 8 or 9. It was ok. But you could tell the budget was weak. Not enough violence and gore for a zombie movie. I would've like to see people with shotguns blowing zombie heads off. Most of this movie was dialog and stuck in a basement. Acting was ok... a bit weak in some scenes. It didnt make me feel like I was in there with them trying to survive the zombies. And the whole reason why the zombies were getting infected didn't make much sense... but I'm willing to let it slide cuz its just a zombie movie. I thought the violence and special effects would make up for it... but they didn't. The only real cool scene was the girl zombie with the bloody mouth.

This was a very well done movie with Thrill and comedy thrown together in an unlikely duo. Amazing acting, I will be seeing it for a second time.
