Anyone who has read the book and enjoyed it, must see this. Although much of the book must be omitted (it is an epic after all), and changes parts to improve the story cinematically, it adds flesh and action to Frank Herbert's often cryptic text. A necessary addition to any serious film connoisseur's collection.

It's a good movie but it's not for everyone. Especially some scene with the Baron in the movie, it's ugly. But I like the story and the idea.

Much too far from the actual story. Most of the actors are pretty good, though.

Although not true to the book, not a bad movie at all. Sting gave an excellent performance. Ihave watched it countless of times and woul watch it again. True Dune fans will find it lacking. Never the less it was entertaining and captivating.

Just an add on to what mperelmuter said: YEs, I have noticed all the similarities between this book. Movie and the current situation. Another one is that Paul Mau'Dib's protective force of Fremen is called The Fedaykeen, and Saddam Hussiens's body guards are called the same thing. Of course, Herbert did admit that he drew heavily on Arabic words for his books.

I have seen this movie about 15 years ago. I revisited it just 2 weeks ago. This is a whole story. Think about resources on Earth and how united states is thirst of oil!! Can this film be cathalogued as "Anticipation"? Just compare: Arrakis sounds like Iraq The Emperor is called Saddam The struggle in Arrakis became a holy war (or Shihaad in arabic) Besides that Arrakis is a huge desert, like Iraq. The story is superb and the music is astonishing. This movie and "2001 Space Oddysey" hinge sci-fi as no other movie in history.

You need to read the book first to make sense of it. The books are a master piece of science fiction and the movie is excellent. A lot of details that require a few viewing to appreciate.

Dune is one of my favourite books of all time. The HBO (or some channel) tv production of around 2001 was fantastic. This movie stank. I had a hard time watching them destroy this great work of science fiction.
