The movie Dark Blue World has everything that our current and past 10 year run of our American Hollywood has been losing rapidly. I enjoyed the film because it made me "think", gave me info. And the acting was good. I am not of Czech. Heritage, I am an Italian-American, female, 34 years of age and I really enjoyed the film. 1990-2003 Hollywood could learn a thing or two from films like this one.

Excellent film. Went for the flying and romance. Was impressed by the depictions of life in England during the war, the kids staying in the country, away from their families in London when it was being bombed. Core impact though was how history and circumstance really abused the people of Czechoslovakia. Those pilots really got a rotten deal, not fixed until after the Communists were overthrown.

Nice film, really, I say it not just because I'm a Czech. It is amazing what Zdenek Sverak (the father of the film director, Jan Sverak) has created so far, the scripts for many nice films (apart from Dark Blue World also Kolja etc.) and much more on the theather stage. Most of his genius remains hidden for the outside world since a half of his wit is based on an outstanding work with his native langue. What a shame for all lovers of "an unforced humor" who don't understand Czech.

After seeing this movie and its very moving story line, its graphic air battles amid the background of war-torn Europe and England, I can't recall when I've been so impressed by a film about the 2nd World War. I don't think anyone of my generation, who had a relative or family member cannot fail to be moved by this blockbuster. Being so inundated by the US view of the war, I think we fail to realize what a devastating loss the other half of the world endured, and that haunting legacy is still being felt up to the present day. An absolutely beautiful film, and by industry standards, on such a frugal budget. Bring on the video!
