This movie was good, even tho not as good as "Love and Basketball", the movie had it's great moments, of overall love, black unity, and drama that can be found in a normal persons life. The acters where great, and the story mostly kept your attention.

This movie does not compare to Love and Basketball as much as everyone is saying. Just bcuz it has the same female character as the leading role and it happens to be a love story, does not mean it's the same. I loved the movie. I actually watch it like 2 times a day. It was the best birthday gift I received this year.

This was a great movie. Taye was lookin fine and Mos deaf also. This was a predictable flick. But arent they all? This was the best romance film of the year! I'd totally buy it!

This movie is the bomb. Makes me want to catch up on all African-American romantic-comedies I've missed. Great performance by Sanaa Lathan. If you want to see more of her, rent Love & Basketball and Disappearing Acts, she's amazing in them. Like other reviews says, the storyline may have been predictable but it's still does not change the fact that it's a good movie. Call me sappy romantic but it made me cry all day. I rented that movie at least 15 times before buying it. Heed my words folks, it's a must see!

I found Brown sugar being a type of movie, where you sit and think about your own relationships, and thinking what If. It was a excellent movie, that brought tears to my eye.

IT was ok! But it always the same story with *almost* the same actors! Can we see new faces! Can they be more orginal with the stories. Black people are more than hip hop & basketball! Aight!

Sad to say I did not go see BS while it was in the theater. I rented the DVD this past Wed (2/12) After my first viewing of this flic I saw a lot similarities to Love&Basketball - with the "I've luv'd you since we were 10"; and the NewYear's Eve proposal reaction - similar to her reaction in BestMan. However, I have since viewed this movie a 9 more times ("I know, but hell I was snowed in this w/e!!! ") , and I have to admit it is very, very, very well done. The main characters & the supporting cast were very well written. Magic Johnson should feel very proud of this project. The use of Cassandra Wilson's verision of "Time after Time" in the break-up scenes was tight. I could say a lot more, but I've said enough... no film will ever be everything to everyone. But remember... this is ours, done by us, for us! Enjoy the right to like it, or not like it. Remember there's always another "Pootie Tang" waiting to be made... and that is SCARY!!!

BrownSugar... an excellent movie about love stemming from the blossom of friendship. Now don't get me wrong, there were some points that gave me the vibe of Love and Basketball, but this was for the most part a movie in a class of it's own. A must see for all.

Is America falling out of ideas? Not only it was predictable like others have said so, but moreover WAS THIS THE EXACT SAME MOVIE AS "LOVE AND BASKETBALL"? On top of the fact that it was the same main female character as played in brown sugar plus it had the same story line. It's time for america to improve not diminuate their entertainment! Just terrible unless you like to watch the same story again and again...

What a predictable movie. Cheesy!!! Right away, you know what's going to happen. It was your typical soap opera on screen. Here's an advice on how to save money...

I thought this was a good movie. It was predictable but I like the way hip-hop music was inter-twined into it. The way it portrayed long friendships as being the base for true love. I think this a film that alot people can relate to. And it basically says "when you find that person, be true and say how you feel. Don't let it become to late." Great characters and acting. Sanaa Lathan is a excellent actor. Comedy aspect of the movie was the bomb. It's just a really good realistic, relaxing, movie. A must see. I'd see it again.

Why is it that they cant find any other Black actors to play in yet another love story type of movie? Don't get me wrong, these 2 are fine lookin and have good skills, but its time for new blood! Where y'all pretty faces hiding?

What a wonderful movie! Sanaa and Taye had such great chemistry. Mos Def and Queen Latifah added an extra ounce of fun energy and the music was great. It took me back to my old high school days. I saw it twice in the theatres. The first time everyone clapped at the end. The second time people got up clapped and started dancing. I cant wait until it comes out on video!! It exceeded all my expectations!!

I really enjoyed the movie. I felt like it took us back to a place where things were simple. The movie was somewhat predictable, as others have said. However, it took love to the next level by intertwining a love of music, with romantic love. I think that everyone should experience it at least once, I will probably go and see it again. It can never hurt to support black films!!!

Brown Sugar was a very good movie in my opinion. I must admit I am the "sappy romance movie" tight girl but I really liked the movie and would pay to see it again. Key word in that phrase is "pay"... now you know it must be good. It was refreshing to see young black professional with their life together.

Even though Brown Sugar was completely predictable, it's always refreshing to see a love story whether about a person or a passion for something. For those who eat, sleep and dream hip hop, it's a must see.

I love to see good African American movies! This is definently one for the home library. There was so much eye candy I was getting chills constantly. Even though the story line was predictable all the scenes were poeitic and brilliant. All the actors were wonderful. I love this movie!

As a lady in the r&b/hip-hop world, everything is intertwined. I'm an artist and I can remember how I fell in love with the whole concept of hip hop from the get go the music, the people, the message behind everything that is done in the genre. Definitely a movie for all to see, funny, sad, touching and a one of a kind, anyone who didn't like it, needs to see it again because although, yes I did see the comparison of "love and basketball" to this movie as well, but all in all, who cares? Both of those movies are 10's in my book. - Mandy M. SecretS NSP. INC.

Brown Sugar was a very good movie. I loved the who the whole concept of them using hip hop as the theme. There are not many movies that the audience target is African American. So I was anxious to see this movie when the previews came out.

The movie was fun to watch, however, the story could have been developed better. I liked the idea of hip hop being a theme (I loved the beginning) , however, it was over played in the movie. The characters could have been developed better. All we knew about Taye Diggs& Sanaa Lathan is that they loved hip hop - where is the substance - the writing was very shallow - Now Love & Basketball told the same story with more depth. That was a cool film... Mos Def did a great job as usual...

Brown Sugar was right on point. It was filled with laughter and also tears (From me. Love and Basketball was my favorite but LOOK OUT Omar, Taye got it doing on. I really loved how the movie was presented because a lot of people are struggling till this day because they do not know how to tell their friend that love is in the eyes.

Brown Sugar was a very witty and romantic film. The actors played their roles as if living their own lives. Out of everyone though, Mos Def made the movie for me.

As a rap artist I really felt this movie. It had the content of everything we go through in the hip hop world. Relationships, faithfulness, desire, motivation, and to top it all off the cameos and the legends and pioneers that were featured really took me back to the beginning of the hip hop movement. It was so real and I could have been in the movie because it was almost like my life on screen. Hip hop is the "love of my life", and I loved this movie.

Brown Sugar is a gotta add this to my Saturday Night I want my love story to end like that movie collection. That makes 3 from Sanaa -- Disappearing Acts, Love and Basketball and now, Brown Sugar. Add Love Jones and what a weekend of tears of joy and longing. Yeah, I know all these have similar story lines of she loves a guy, it doesn't work out but then it does. And really Love and Basketball and Brown Sugar are the SAME movie with Hip-Hop being the medium instead of basketball. But still a great I love a happy ending love story. LOVED IT!
