It was a great story, full of humour, plot twists action and gongs, it would have been better if I beleived that chuck barris actually did those things.

I have to say if no one got it... then it's ok. Stick to the light side of hollywood. If you got it, if you understand Kaufman, Clooney at his best... Barris at his most ill... but at his most poiniant of mania... Making money and dealing with the mind of a genius who can make money at being mentally ill... then HELLO... jump on. For those too literal... and have none or not or a single notion of mental illness accompanied by extreme... well... let's just say... some of us ill minded are admirers of famous writers, philosophers... master minds... etc...[...]

Its really great when you leave the theatre with a divided soul and confused conscios and wait for a night to digest what you intake in last shot of your weekend.. but I am happy that I have started my monday with a rich feeling of layered emotions of satire... gimic... adventure... sick 00 happy with the texture of minute details... sparkled here and there in this movie... its always touch the hidden corner of living a multiple life and the male adventure in life love... or lust whatever way... I am happy that I havent missed it... A real good black comedy of our times.

Absolute bloody crap. This movie was not at all engaging and completely boring. The only entertainment was when the Elvis look-alike sang "Falling in Love with You" so I could sing along. A complete waste of money and time. More detail needed to be shown about the murders. It should have gone straight to video as it sucked badly.

I think it's a very good movie, and it's worthwhile seeing it; maybe the story plot is a bit discontinuos, but never annoying. George Clooney did a very very good job (and don't forget this is his first attempt!) Go to see it!

Excellent movie! Impressive talent for a 1st. I was impressed by the talent of George Clooney as both an actor & director of his first movie. The cast was well chosen to portray the story, so was the wardrobe, which made us feel nostalgic of the times of the Gong Show & the Dating Game. You can tell that George worked on many details to make us feel as part of the movie as possible. The movie was kind of a tease, because it leaves you with SOME unanswered questions. I would like to KNOW MORE about this story. He should have showed more CIA scenes. Had lots of laughs. I personally found that Sam Rockwell & Drew Barrymore would look good together in real life. I think that George Clooney gave us a taunting experience of his talented work as a director & that he will have us looking forward to seeing more of his creative work as a director. Watch out!! I personnally think that George Clooney should produce a c. I. A or espionage movie... I think it would be intriguing because he seems to have what it takes as both a director and actor. Joe biondi (actor)

Having watched many of Chuck Barris's notorious game shows, while growing up, this movie really puts a new light on the man behind these wacky shows. All I can say, is if you watched any of his shows like the Gong Show, Dating Game, $1.98 Beauty Contest, you have to see this! This movie is nostalgic, witty, funny, and shocking. George Clooney is a surprisingly good director! He has some obvious Steven Sodderburg influence, but definitely has talent as a director. Clooney did something most Hollywood directors, and producers have been failing to do for the last 5-10 years. Find an intersting story to tell that nobody thought would be interesting to turn into a movie.

A well thought out movie that grows on you. The real or perceived characters of Mr. Barris's "Confessions..." are complex. Yes, the film is slow to evolve, but well worth the patience. It's a film which challenges further thought about the possibilities of human nature. The lighting effects are superb. Great piece of work!

I really thought that this would be a good movie considering that there are quite a few good actors in it, but it was the WORST movie I have EVER seen. Half my friends left the theatre to go see Chicago instead (which is good they said) It was a waste of time and money for SURE.

This is a very entertaining movie, albeit with a bizarre storyline. I suppose we'll never know if Barris' tale is truth or fiction. Regardless, he certainly lived an interesting life. Clooney does excellent work here, both as director and actor. I didn't care for a couple of stylistic elements, but that's a minor quibble. Barrymore is passable in her role, Roberts is surprisingly good, and Rockwell is simply mesmerizing. Considering how inconceivable the plot is, his performance makes it seem all too real.

I'm surprised of cloony's work. Usually, a hollywood star doesnt do good in anything else than acting. It's really entertaining... for a movie who is based on a autobiography. Moreover, it's an autobiography of a dangerous mind ;) I liked the satiric style (cloony's style (?!) ) , really clowny (joke plate) :P. Ok ok, here is another one. Dont be confused, there is two confession of a dangerous mind. One with Sam Rockwell and the other one is the state of union by George W. Bush..

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.]
Marcel Duchamp died in 1968 with everyone believing he hadn't done any work for over 20 years. Soon after he died it was revealed that he secretly had been working on a major piece throughout those years, one which contradicted yet played upon his earlier work, while contradicting 20 years as his (false) role of non-practicing artist. Duchamp, a Dadaist, the father of readymade art, and grandfather of pop, punk and anything 'reality-*', would have walked out of 'Confessions of a dangerous mind' with a whispering smile. The film touches on the relationship between the banality of the everyday and the banality of what we watch on television, back in 1976 and today, and what we value as entertainment (art?) Whether Barris 'actually' was a CIA hit man is trivia to us, and irrelevant to us as viewer of the film; if he wasn't he's simply continuing his legacy as a seller of ideas, taking common fantasy and selling it to the masses; if he was an assassin, who would believe him, and who could imagine him really caring whether they did or not? The idea is the sell. Not just the sell to make a million, but the sell to see if it could be done, and (and here's the twist) done cleverly. This film was a pleasant surprise. I walked in solely with the expectation of enjoying my bushel of popcorn. What I experienced was a flashback to my teen years on the couch, wondering why Chuck looked like he just got out of bed, unshaven, unprepared and preoccupied, yet also so strangely interesting to watch because of it. The context of what we experienced twenty-odd years ago is lent a possible explanation, yet possibly only one of many. I'm waiting for next years variation, 'Confessions of a deluded mind: The Chuck Barris Story, Part II: the mental health years'; or 'Confessions of a deranged mind: The Chuck Barris Story, Part II: the drug years'. The possibilities are endless - THAT fits his profile. The reality may be unbelievable, or so unbelievably boring it may prove utterly fascinating. The parlay between 'reality' and (possible) fiction was intriguing. Barris was criticized for 'polluting the airwaves. ' But by reducing tv entertainment to its lowest common denominator was he really shedding light on the pollution that was unquestioningly being consumed episode after episode on every other channel? In a Lenny Bruce kind of way, was he using methods of (perceived) degradation to question it? After all, who, but a masochist or someone who understood what the show was really about, would knowingly go on the show if they suspected even a hint of possible rejection? Given that, was he really just a scummy salesman out to pitch for a buck by utilizing the underbelly of humanity to do so? Probably nobody will ever really know, except perhaps Barris, because arguments can be made for both views. And, quite possibly, there may be elements of both aspects in the truth; after all, how many people have walked away millionaires from preaching? This, then, leads to the question: Does (cultural/artistic?) intension really matter if the end is viewer awareness? Chuck could be Jerry Springer's father, or the condom that prevented his conception. Consider this: Why did Jerry arrive fully embraced while fifteen years prior people claimed to be aghast with garbage a la Gong Show? Would David Letterman have arrived in the format his show did, if the antics of Chuck and his big Gong hadn't played out on tubes around the world? And who/what else? (Hey, have you ever visited the CIA's Homepage for Kids? Really. Talk about salesmanship and gimmicks.) And, where HAS Chuck been these past twenty years? Why is his story relevant for us now? Is this a GenX nostalgia thing Chuck is taking advantage of...again? The marvelous thing about this film is the questions it raises, not about Chuck Barris, but about television, consumerism, celebrity, and the relationships between common fantasy and big screen entertainment. Nope, this isn't just another dumb movie, or profile of yet another Hollywood celebrity staring at their navel, it's (also) a film that questions us as a consumer/viewing culture, both (recent) past, present and future. As Duchamp conferred the status of art upon a urinal ('Fountain' of 1917) , Barris conferred the status of entertainment upon contemptible hijacks ('Gong Show' of 1976) But, Duchamp was also questioning the myopic and glad handing trends of 'high art' circles. Was Barris really just thinking about the money, or was there something more to it? The storyline of Barris as CIA assassin plays tongue-in-cheek with two overly stereotyped Hollywood characters: the deluded schizophrenic, harbourer of CIA fantasies and fears; and the CIA covert operative, bearer of false papers and killer of identities. This film seems to reveal more in its form as historical narrative than its authenticity as historical fact. Either way, Chuck's walking home with a fist full of cash, a smile on his face, and possibly a clearer conscience..

This movie was far from good. It was long and drawn out and frankly quite boring. It was the first movie in a long time I've seen where people actually got up and left before the end. If you really have to see it, then please wait for it to come out on video, or better yet, wait for the tv version.

If this movie did not have this high profile cast of Drew Barrymore, George Clooney and Julia Roberts this movie would not of made it to the big screen! P. S. I can't believe they feel good about using Brad Pits name to draw the audience. You see him once for about 30 seconds sitting in a chair. He does not even have a speaking part!

An ultimate reality show isn't it? I am impressed and want to find out more about the real story behind the screen - but we'll never know of course. Do you ever cross this line? What happens if you do? Dostoevsky and Chuck Barris had their own answers to these questions.

Here it goes. I went on friday to watch this movie and beleive me it's not worth the 13$. if you've seen all the movies in the theater and it's a extreamly boring tuesday, it might be worth the 5$. just make sure that you watch it at the movies cause if you rent it you won't finish it. The movie is 2 hours long and the plot is really boring. One last thought if he was really a killer for the cia, do you think that he would be able to mention it especialy that he is still alive.

Enthralling and engrossing, Tom Clooneys directorial début is a full fledged tour de force. Easily one of the years 10 best and in my books, worthy of a sure nod for an Oscar nomination. From the periodic washed out lighting that literally time warps the viewer to the 1970's, to the stand out peformances from Julia Roberts and Drew Barrymore respectively as well as a tribute performance from Sam Rockwell (just WHO is this guy?) , 'Confessions' will shock you, captivate and intrigue you as well as entertain. This is what movie making is about and George Clooney shows here that he has amassed all the necessary ingredients to make a great film and that nothing is stopping him from going on to be a very potent force in Hollywood..
