I think that this movie, "Man on the Train" is an excellent slice of reality, and should be a "must see" for anyone at any age. It's about choices, and the willingness to cross over and to empathize with others' lives and choices. In some cases, as in the relationship that blooms between these two characters, one can borrow or permanently buy the other's best attributes, (aside from the pitfalls).. I. E. the guts, bravado or the "energy" in risk taking as in the bank robber's character, or the stability of long-hewn relationships grown in a small town, and the respect, gentle wisdom, generosity of spirit of a lonely poetry teacher. These men shared their lives in a week and it was beautifully crafted--from the diaglogue, visual effects, scenery, marvelous rhythms and beat of the background music to the body language. I thoroughly got wrapped up in it, and appreciated the juxtaposition of their characters in the end... which in fact was a dream sequence. I believe they both died with the understanding that they had crossed over into the other's reality. Beautiful film, beautiful lessons and story. I recommend it highly to both serious filmgoers--Americans and Europeans, et al.

MAY REVEAL CONTENT OF FILM I loved this movie, makes you think that its never too late to change one's destiny, no matter how old you are. Great chemistry between the two characters and their dialogue is very amusing and fun. For those confused about the ending of the movie, it is quite simple, Rochfort ends up opting for Johny Halliday's life and Halliday opts for Halliday's life. Rochfort hands him the key to his house so he can live there, and hetakes off by train. Both characters switched lives.

In the beginning I was bored with the movie, two chractaters in a boring French provincial town in November, then Jean Rochefort starts yapping to Milan(Johnny Hallyday), because he's bored and lonely, the dialogue becomes funny. The two opposits begin to like each other. Also, I'm not 100% sure of what the ending is really about, although I have my own theories.

I would say the characters in the film are interesting and the film is well put together. I found it slow moving at times and would not say it is as good as some of Leconte's other films.

Great film. A bit of a confusing ending that I wish someone would explain to me, but I still loved it.
