[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Jon Foster plays a young teen who goes to Jeff Bridges'beach house to learn about writing and falls in love with his wife played by kim Basinger. Now what other reviews haven't addressed is what are exactly the so called explicit nude scenes featured here? (If you don't like nudity then avoid the film, the others can continue reading this review... ) Well once again you imagine you'll get alot and then most sex scenes are close to being worthless! Nobody here are making stripteases(Basinger does unbutton her shirt but doesn't go further except for a bref scene laying in bed where a breast is exposed sideways)which means that apart from Foster getting his pants up from behind you get to see people naked once in a while but no undressing to reveal forbidden flesh. Two scenes with Jeff Bridges'butt(yeah... I don't think that many people are paying to see that! Lol)and a full frontal and back scene from Mimi Rogers while Jeff Bridges is painting her. (later Mimi runs after Bridges to try to kill him with a knife. Why? I couldn't explain or understand that part! )Yeah, Mimi used to be beautiful 20 years ago but we're not in 1984 anymore! In fact, the sexiest scenes are probably with Bijou Phillips (who plays the babysitter)and she doesn't even get naked! So if you're interested in those explicit naked scenes, forget it! If you're interested in a very good film, choose something else also! This is another film where they promise you playboy bunnies and all you get is farm rabbits!

Thin, poor acting all around, even the young daughter - you don't often see really bad acting in children. The young man overdid a lot of his scenes but he and the gardener get the the highest acting points from me. A script that, in my view, tried to be "haunting and mysterious" but failed to be authentic. Very boring. Take your chances if you must - my neighbour left in the middle.

The movie was just plain boring, , , way to long and not much of a story line.

One of the better adapations of John Irving's novels - solid acting, a story that sticks relatively close to the book. Entertaining and funny, just as John Irving always is...

Brigdes is masterful. The script is daring and mysterious. The story has some unexpected humor, but is basically a serious study of the tragic results of an deadly accident. Much better than I expected. The pace may be a bit slow for some. But it worked for this viewer.

It was beautiful and haunting. It stayed with me for days after I saw it. Finally a movie about real people with real problems. I could relate to it because it's not too often in life you get the perfect "hollywood ending". Good job to all involved in creating the film!!!

"Dark cinema, but also perceptive and revelatory in exploring how an ill-fated couple struggles to cope with tragedy.".

A rare gem of a film in the summer which is usually dominated by Hollywood garbage aimed at today's generation of the young and mindless. I notice in the few reviews posted here, that members of the 50+ aged audience gave 'Door in the Floor' a high rating while those under 25 trashed it. This is a film for adults dealing with complex relationship problems, a theme that is dark and difficult to digest, even for mainstream adults. How can teenagers possibly understand and evaluate it? I can fully appreciate the story which is quite common in the world of artists. Those who saw Jackson Pollock a few years ago do not have to be convinced of the abnormal life that exists in the creative community. Other than the captivating psychological drama I also enjoyed the relaxing ocean beach setting, a refreshing change of scenery from the usual fare of city violence, loud soundtracks and special effects. Thank you Tod Williams and John Irving for the intelligent treat!

Trying to be much more profound and artistic than it really was. Still don't understand the ending... not worth seeing. PG: explicit sex scenes.
