Interesting family dynamics. Great acting.

If you like movies about depressed, lonely, messed-up people who act without considering others, then you'll like this. It remimded me of Lost in Translation, you leave the cinema with the same depressed feeling.

I disagree with the above review, I left the cinema in an excellent mood. Yes, the story, starts off about death, and loneliness, but the woman finds hope in her desperation. The mother is excellent, and congratulations to Hanif Kureishi who wrote and an excellent scrip.

The perfect movie if you REALLY need to get good and depressed on a fine summer night along with a cast of unsympathetic characters. Apart from that, an intelligent scenario and superb acting.

I thought this was an excellent, moderately paced, little film that packed an emotional punch. The main themes explored in this film are desire and motherhood and how the two can pathologically collide. The acting was superb and I found it altogether to be quite interesting, humourous and sad. The performances were raw and the direction quite tight. 9 out of 10.
