The movie is about an aspect of World II that was not known to me previously, so that attracted my interest as I was flicking through the cable channels. I found the plot involving. I'm till wondering if the PR impact of mowing down those Aryan women was the reason Goebbel's allowed the Jewish men to go, not Lena's own unique intervention.

Even if it's based on a true story, the time frame is very poorly researched. People did not behave, (I. E., curtsy), grimace, dance in that way in the 1940s. More a reflection of the 1920s. The movie is too long and rather confusing. Also too biased. [...] I have lived under German occupation as a Jew.

I didn't know if I would like this movie at first. The first 10-15 minutes seemed really weird and kind of abstract. After that things settled down and the film became much more interesting. The movie flashes back between the present and 1943 Germany focusing on Jews and their non-Jewish spouses, and how they are affected holocaust events. I found this veiwpoint important / interesting and it is one that I had never thought of before. This movie is very somber and heavy, so expect to feel a little drained after it's over...

The most boring 2 World war film ever seen. Just another German try to explain the unexplicable but with no new attitudes, no different facts or feelings we would not have already seen a thousand times. [...] Two long hours, even for a German interested in history.

The over 2 hour movie went by very quickly. If you like war stories of the anguish of the Jews ( and non Jews - in this movie ) then you will find this story compelling. The movie rocks back and forth between now and then, but I liked its' constant fusion between the two bringing the past, so to speak, to the present. A good rendition of a theme never to be shut away.
