I don't know what people saw in this movie but it was terrible. When I picked up this movie in the store, I thought it was a thriller from the box, y'know The Woodsman, ohhh, scary, Bacon as a Jason Vorhees type goes nuts in the forest... hmm... that should be neat. But no... this is a movie about pedophiles! Just a disgusting subject matter for a film. Who cares about people like this, they should be shot! Luckily, the thing was so badly done, it didn't elicit an emotional response, I just sat there stone faced that Kevin Bacon would be caught dead in a role like this. Easily his worst role ever,[...]

An excellent movie that succesfully tackles a very difficult subject without excusing it either. The acting as superb and the movie is definitely thought provoking.

The Woodsman is a look into a subject that few would like to ponder. Yet, Kevin Bacon so thoroughly pulls it off that it is a definite must see for those who have an open mind. The movie is dark and disturbing, but truly shows the side of a pedophile.

Excellent show. A wonderfully complex and balanced take on a very controversial and disturbing topic. Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick are superb, as is the directing. One of my favorite movies the last year or so.

Very difficult subject covered in an intelligent and layered manner. The acting was very good, the writing was subtle with a deliberate pace which was authentic. My only criticism concerns the "transformation" by the lead character from his cycle, which I felt was somewhat contrived and accelerated for the purposes of the movie. I would highly recommend this film, though not everyone will want to struggle with this topic.

This movie was sending a powerful message. Along the same lines as Mystic River, The Woodsman reaches in and shows us what a plot and amazing storytelling can do for a movie. Definitely a movie to think things over.

Probably one of the better movies around. I came away having sympathy for the main character despite his disturbing profile. The best line, delivered subtly by Bacon: "doesn't everybody have something to hide? "... reminds me that we are all battling our own demons and shame to some degree, and are trying to rectify our present and our future as best as we can. Bravo to the entire cast for their amazing, authentic performances!

A perfect movie. What an interesting situation, to see the reinsertion into society of someone who committed one of society's most reviled crimes. Of course during the movie you dislike the characters who try to unveil this man's past but after the movie, you realize that you would probably do the exact same thing. Not many people would accept living next door to someone who had been in prison for this type of crime. Kevin Bacon was just fantastic, you completely forget it's him acting. Same for all the other characters. Just excellent!

This was an excellent, very nuanced movie that successfully balanced sympathy for the victim and the offender. Unlike so many movies that are simplified into black and white, this one focused on the spectrum of gray.

So far, the best treatment of a difficult and still taboo subject. Bacon delivers an Oscar-winning caliber performance. Hauntlingly disturbing, this movies forces the viewer to search his own feelings towards pedophily. The rest of the cast, especially Eve, offer convincing performances. Do not be rebuffed by the slow pace of the movie, it's definitely one of this year's best movie.

When I got at the theater, looking at the poster, I thought this was some sort of dramatic suspense or chilling horror movie (Boogeyman, Candy Man... and then the Woodsman - It all makes sense) Since I had not read any reviews or synopsis, I was quite shocked when I realised what the story was about: pedophilia. No matter, I remained (uncomfortably) seated and followed Bacon's excellent performance in a very humane tale. The subject is not an easy one and the movie is not 'entertaining' per say but it offers an interesting view on a problem we do not know much about. Here, the enemy is not some sort of Dragon, Drug Cartel or evil Tyrant, it is a man's own hidden, misunderstood, inner demons. Excellent movie.
