The movie is really good, it will break your heart. If this story really happened, I want to know what happen to the children.

Totally heart-breaking! I sobbed through the whole movie. The child actors are so amazingly natural that you think it was a documentary and not fictional. Yes, it was slow paced but that just magnified the tragedy of their situation.

It was poignant and moving, but somewhat slow for my taste. I am very impressed by the young actors.

As you watch, you will laugh and (nearly) cry along with the children, who are so lifelike in this piece that remaining neutral in observation is a difficult task. I have to point out that this moves along slower than a lot of American mainstream movies. This movie fills much of its 141 minutes up with realistic conversation and shots which capture the moment just a few seconds longer. In a way, this can be tiresome for some action-craving American viewers, but for those who can be patient enough to tolerate the less hurried pace of this film, they will likely find it appealing. Slow? Maybe so. However, in a movie which exsists not so much for the plot as for the act of being there, this works just fine. Director Hirokazu Koreeda has attained just the balance of subtle humor and tragedy to make this film work. Not only does it work, in fact, but it also manages to provoke; a bit too much in fact, as some will leave this movie intrigued, others may be scratching their heads with confused disappointment. But as I stated before, this movie is not circulated around the plot and "getting there". The film exists for the purpose of "being there"; creating an atmosphere that one will feel submerged in—should they possess the attention span required for it. And no film does this ring true as for this one. Koreeda has gone beyond the idea of plot by painting a picture with tone and feeling. With pitch-perfect performances by young actors Yuya Yagira and Kitara Ayu, this film is definitely worth seeing… if you think that you can sit for 2 and a half hours.

This movie is so moving, that it will invariably attack your understanding of the poverty of children across any nation. I had no choice but to block it out for the hours following as to not upset the rest of my Sunday evening. It was on a par with a real childhood trauma. Not a first date flick, but a must see for all.

This film stays with you days after watching it. It is purposefully shot in real time for much of it, to show the slow deteriation of their lives. It is a powerful and very moving movie, but don't go if you are expecting a hollywood style "Home Alone".

BORING!! The kid goes to grocery then home, goes to the park then home. Their mother is gone about 7 months and left money for about 3 months and landlord only came once to check for overdue rent? Meanwhile water and gas have been cut off! Don't waste your time movie is alomost 21/2 hours long and goes no where. One review says that it's good please tell me what I missed?
