Adrian Lyne's "Flashdance" is a beautiful respectful statement about women. What a disservice he has done by glorifying child abuse and offense to women in his version of Kubrick's "Lolita." Besides being a satirical critique of Hollywood cliches about women, Kubrick intended his movie to be a love story impelling Humbert to act humanly and punish the privileged and powerful Quilty for corrupting and exploiting a rather rebellious young girl.

This taboo subject which Kubrick told masterfully has been remade for what reason? I think it's as dumb as the blokes who decided to remake Psycho. It comes off more like a warped 9-1/2 Weeks. Aka. Soft Porn. The original was very funny. Kubrick handled the touchy subject of this movie very tastefully, allowing the mother to be the wall between them even after she dies. Adrianne Lyne film had some nice pictures but I felt a bit like a dirty old man after seeing this.

The film that has been in movie purgatory for seemingly ages has finally come out and the wait was worth it. Adrian Lyne masterly translated Nabokov's classic celebrated of obsession to the screen. Jeremy Irons does the performance of a lifetime as Humbert Humbert, coveying the character's passion, his intellect, and his coldness to perfection. The gayzy, reminiscent feel of the movie at the beginning is especially well-done. The cinematography interlaced with Morricone's chilly music creates a film that deserves to become a classsic like its novel of inspiration has.

Excellent movie. Fantastic photography. Very faithful to Vladimir Nabokov's original text. Congratulations also to the director for taking the challenge of remaking a movie that has been directed by (oh great) Stanley Kubrick and succeding. A pity that when a movie like "Spice World" comes out, everyone has seen it, the theatres are packed, but when a masterpiece like "Lolita" comes out, there are only four people in the theatre (Friday night, 9pm)! Excellent.
