Page will win an Oscar one day. You can feel the pain in this movie (you must see it to understand this comment.) Very well written.

Somehow I missed all the hype surrounding about Ellen Page's performance in this movie. I went in with an open mind. The movie was both fascinating and disturbing at times. It deals with mature subject matter (pedophilia) and I thought Ellen Page was brilliant. Kudos to another strong performance from her. If you enjoy thrillers/film noir-type movies this is for you. It leaves some unanswered questions at the end, but that somehow adds to the creativity of the plot. I would recommend this movie is you enjoy this genre of film.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] It is not a BORING movie, but I am against it in a controversial sense. Overall: I am against this movie. It would be interesting if she were a serial torturer/killer and did this... vile stuff to many men... Hard Candy Critique --Warning SPOILER-- "A mature 14-year old girl meets a charming 32-year old photographer on the Internet. Suspecting that he is a pedophile, she goes to his home in an attempt to expose him." Okay, so a 14-year old is invited by a 32-year old photographer after chat on the Internet. The 14 year old posed as many young girls, and observed that the man would only talk to the younger girls. She calls him a pedophile eventually, drugs him after asking to drink some "sparklers" or something which refers to alcohol. He lets her drink, and drinks himself. The girl then ties him up and he finds himself tied up. And say criticizes him about having pictures of half naked underage girls around. She then ties him up and tells he she is going to castrate him, he begs, and she still does it (claiming to be a smart student) She argues on behalf on young girl versus pedophiles -even if they act older men should discipline them i.e. tell her not to drink etc. -that many always have excuses ==I find that movies like this sure raise awareness of possiblity things to be aware of. The more "extremes" that someone is exposed to, it would be debatable as to whether or not they would respond. For example, a pedophile sees this, and makes sure never to drink if there is a chance the girl slipped something into this For example, a girl sees this and feels empowered,... still has to be careful of course... on his side -he was brutally tortured -he denies murdering a missing girl and could have been innocent Society -that police officer just happening to walk away and offer to babysit shows corruption, I suppose when people know people officers or something it is fishy. Her plan -get the pedophile, castrate him, tell him he is going to live (and suffer), taunt him, give him false hope of escape His chances -shoot himself (though couldnt get fatal shot perhaps) -He apparently had a chance to dial 911 and turn himself in which he didn't take. It ultimately shows he rather not live with a ruined reputation whether or not he killed the girl. -hang himself (he takes it at the end) -once castrated, he could have escaped but was too angry and tried to go the the shower -yell for help (she supressed by spraying him) she ends up getting him to commit suicide so no one would ever know, and she knew at most she would get community service. He ends up hanging himself, with the belief that she would clean up the 'mess' for him. He seems to agree near the end that she was right, and he was just as psycho. This reminds me of a sharp anti-rape female condom like device. Women who strongly support anti-rape as victims etc. would like this movie I suppose as a form of empowerment.

The subject and the fact that the content of this movie is disturbing is what makes it so great. Instead of being offended or thinking its another way to bash men, just try to put yourself in a young girl's shoes for a moment, either having been abused or losing a friend who has been abused of and killed... You can then understand the boiling rage inside the person who wishes to teach the abuser a lesson and make him realize what he has done is unacceptable. Of course some parts of the movie are a bit far fetched, but I think the point of the movie is to imagine "and what if the tables were turned". This is why I loved the originality of this movie, and the acting was terrific. You could feel the rage of the teenage girl just as much as the terror, frustration and rage of the man being "found out". I dont think there are many movies with a dialogue going on between two people for a whole 2 hours that could keep me captivated the whole time. 9/10 for me!

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] Never seen a movie so stupid and impossible, there are so many errors in this film , its unbelievable, like that she is strong enough to lift him and to subdue him is so dumb, and the scene with the taser and the water where both of then would have been hit, this movie sucks really bad

I didn't know much about what this movie was going to be before I saw it. I see tons of movies and to say a lot of great things about this movie seems inappropriate. I think I can best describe this movie by saying that it will grab you and it won't let go until the very end. This movie is also something like the title says : a hard candy to swallow.

Amazing actors, flawless dialogues... great movie. There is something missing to it, maybe I felt there would be a surprise ending, but there wasen't. Still, it's worth watching, it's brilliant.
