A troupe of travelling players arrives in the remote community after an absence of many years; there, the troupe's lead actor is anxious to renew acquaintances with a local woman he once loved, and with the son she had by him. His current lover becomes jealous, while his son – who still believes this infrequent visitor to be an uncle – becomes involved with a young actress in his troupe.
