[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] I found myself very interested with this movie. The theme and idea escaped me at the time but I felt like I had seen this before. I very much enjoyed the action and the suspense of the film but was left with one... one very un-answered issue... Why the alien ship suddenly broke down over Earth, but could magically fly away at the end... ? Doesn't really matter to me, I still enjoyed myself and love the clip of the guy digging through the trash on the news.

I enjoyed it from start to finish. The basic premise is a bit ridiculous but this is a movie after all. Liked the fact that all the actors were new faces to me at least instead of the same recycled bunch of Hollywood hacks. Going in I thought movie was directed by Peter Jackson but he only produced it. One of the more original sci-fi movies I've seen.

Solid show, maybe a little bit too politically deep for its own good, but very well done. Excellent effects, thought the aliens were great.

Excellent movie demonstrating the sterotype and racism that goes on in our world. The camera work and ending were suberb.

Unique perspective for a Hollywood movie. Peter Jackson is a truly diverse director. However, I must say this movie left a saddening feeling behind; because I thought this was more like a sociological study on what would actually happen under the circumstances. This movie was far more about the human reaction than the actual aliens. Excellent movie.

Gritty, incidentally sci-fi. We never get a full explanation of what motivates our protagonists, but certainly see the darker side of humanity. For those of us who seek out any drech sf that comes along, this is a very welcome relief! Extremely engaging movie without the distraction of a familiar star in the lead role. Very enjoyable, and realistic, and wide open for a sequel. :-)

This movie didnt work. Aliens living in the slums? Being shuffled around to find a place for them all. Why didn't they just give them all an island to live on. Poor acting not really credible and an unfinished ending.

I am not into sci-fi but my husband wanted to see it. I LOVED it!!! I would see it again!! The characters were funny; story line good and special effects were awesome!!!

Wost movie ever! Don't waste your hard earned money unless you want to see a movie that it blatantly racist, has not point to it and has conflicting themes. Every time I thought the movie might have a point or theme, then the next scene it would be contradicted. The racism is very blatant and disgusting. A movie that promotes racism, stereotyping and ignorance!!

Good movie and a different story than the usual type but it was better than most. Not great but good.

Don't sit too close to the screen in a normal theatre or it will be uncomfortable. Nice story of personal redemption under adversity. Gore galore, very similar cinematograohy as Children of Men. COM had slightly better character development and more believable. No one is 100% evil are they?

The movie is good. I don't understand the people who say that the first hour is slow or boring etc. It sets the stage, and is a pertinent issue in society. It gives feeling to the setting. Aboriginal, immigrant, and prisoners of war issues. ALL IMPORTANT. THEN the movie is good, action packed, and strange.

Definitely not the movie I expected. It starts out very slow, but finally in the last portion of the movie it picks up. If the movie would have continued as it started, I would have given it a 1/10. For the first hour I was looking at my watch, wishing this movie would just end.

This movie is something! I recommend it just because it's so different! However, I found this film to be particularly disturbing. There where a few scenes that had me in tears and quite a few that made me cover my eyes. It took me a couple of days to get the images out of my head. It's not easy/pleasant to watch. The aliens are quite gross and the human's transpormation is also quite repulsive. Great for people that want to be moved!

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] How can a 30-million-dollar picture have special effects as great as a 200-million-dollar picture? We should ask Peter Jackson, producer of this original piece of sci-fi trash. Aliens have a spaceship hovering over South Africa, been there for 20 years, human had to learn to live with them. They arent violent, they are like us, only they look ugly and eat cat food. They live is the slums, but people dont want them near the city anymore so they are about to be deported a couple of hundred miles further. I wont give more details, it could spoil the film. It begins like a documentary, sometimes it shows news excerpts, sometimes it becomes an Hollywood action movie. Director Neill Blomkamp blends many style and is always in control of his film. Its original, funny, extremly gory and always entertaining. District 9 is definitely refreshing after the crapfest that was this year's blockbuster season, with the exception of a few films. What makes it interesting though, is its message. District 9 isnt only a metaphor on immigration and intolerance, but it also recalls South Africa's recent history and it never over-achieves it. It asks the right morale question and then let it go, without shoving it down our throat. Like Wall-E last year, the most human character of the film isnt even human. Its amazing how an prawn looking alien can become so likable and even manages to feature in the most moving scene of the film, and its all computer generated. The ending is intense, much more than what anyone could expect, that guy Blomkamp got skills and could teach Michael Bay how to direct an action sequence. Maybe Peter Jackson gave him a few advice. Not to be missed.

Awesome movie. Loved the approach. Very interesting idea behind the story. Thought the lead actor was brilliant. I hope there isn't a sequel however, as this movie's ending was perfect as it was.

This is not your typical Sci-Fi Movie, it had a real human emotion behind it. I was pleasantly surprised and thought that Peter Jackson did a wonderful job with this movie.

Interesting movie from South Africa. Different from seeing NY crumbling, of White House exploding, or LA drifting to sea. Not a US feel-good movie. Good play by actors, original story. Violent, yes; but no more than a video game where aliens explode in a burst of red dots...

It was supposed to be novel, brilliant, a twist. Instead I thought I was watching some 3rd rate horrow movie. Forget the sci-fi , if you want to spend an hour, watching someone vomit, peel off their fingernails, chop off thie arm, blood and guts every where then this movie is for you. Not for us, we left after 45 minutes, it just didnt get better.

Way better than I expected, great acting by the main character, special effects were great, especially for a low budget film with regards to typical action films these days, can't wait for District 10 to come out.

I was really captivated while watching this movie because I couldn't even reach for my water bottle to get a drink. The story wasn't flawless however and some parts were disappointing but overall I think this is a really original picture and for a non-sci-fi enthusiast, I really commend the work done on this picture. Excellent acting by the lead!

I observed the same issue with the main dual-function plot device (biological active fuel) as walter2's review. However it's possible to overlook that and other flaws because of the terrific inner character growth that the main character goes through. He starts out as the typical head-down (I was just following orders) unimaginative bureaucrat that makes possible brutal corporate/state sponsored violence like blood diamonds, central African wars for control over resources like oil, Apartheid, Stalinist Russia, and even Nazi Germany. He then goes through even more brutal events that shock and force him out of that mode (despite his best efforts to return to blissful ignorance) into empathizing with the victims and becoming so much more than he used to be. A very violent, but brilliant film.

After reading all the wonderful reviews, I was convinced it would be worth seeing. Aliens was a great movie, this one isn't. Too many inconsistencies spoiled the story line. To me the story was the same as the pharmaceuticals testing their drugs in poor African countries updated to sci-fi.

So-so movie. A bit too predictable for my liking... and most would agree with me the message is too in-your-face. I really wish I could care less about the aliens... but their CGI eyes are just so blank and empty.
