Captured the life of a courtisan in the 19th century very well. The costumes were excellent and so was Michelle Pfeiffer who seemed to be enjoying her self. Rupert Friend seemed to give a pretty solid performance as well. It is based on aterrific novel by the french author Colette which BTW is a must-read. In all a very good film that captured what it was like to grow old in a world where beauty is essential and also what's it's like to grow up with troubled parents.

Suited to those who are fans of the period genre. Fantastic sets, costumes and nuanced performances by the cast. Not the greatest movie ever but plenty to hold one's attention.

Wasnt as bad as I had thought it would be. Turned out a bit strange. I felt no connection/understanding to the periods of time lapses. Overall... not recommended unless youre not paying.

We won passes to see this movie, I am glad we did not pay to be bored to death. Poorly constructed story line, average acting and timid bed sceen make this movie BAD to the bone. The only magic is that the movie is 1 & 1/2 hour and to me it seems like 3 hours!

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] It is a movie that confronts two realities: you can be beautiful and desirable, but you can get old and nobody wants a courtisan that is aging and a young man who has everything, does not know what real love is. The courtisan finally falls in love with a young man that tries to have fun but does not have any idea what it means to become an adult and to face reality. It is in the atmosphere that you will find in "Dangerous Liaisons". Good movie, predictable that's why I gave a 7. The costumes are well designed and Michelle Pfeiffer give a very good performance.

Although the costumes, the sets and the music were elegant, I found no depth to the storyline. It's one of those movies that you keep watching 'cuz you think to yourself, 'come on, something is going to happen any minute now! '... and then it doesn't... and you go home thinking what was the point of this movie?
