Great Psychological film, the way scenes go in & out along with Ryan Gosling's preformance gives it a great erieness.

One of the smartest movies I've seen lately. It's the kinda movie in that everything makes sence after you've seen the end.

I usually am a huge fan of psycological thrillers but this one was horrible. Why on earth did I watch the entire thing? It was VERY boring. If you hate all talk/ no action you should consider this movie. It made the 6th sence look like a horror movie.

Fascinating movie, it was really gripping. A definite must-see, but not for the chick-flick/cutsey film ppl... keeps you guessing all the way..

The cinematography is amazing, as well as the plot. If you haven't seen it yet, I'd suggest you go soon.

The Adverts for "Stay" seem to portray a psychological thriller. I, however, found it to be more of a psychological drama. Not that thats a bad thing, but if you are expecting action, you will be disappointed. Definitely comparable to Donnie Darko, it is confusing and seems meaningless at times, and the ending will not satisfy if you like your movies to be well explained. I walked out last night trying to figure out what all the pieces added up to, but this afternoon I still find myself totally confused. I would recommend this film to anyone who likes drama. And definitely to anyone who could figure out Donnie Darko (I am still working on that one! ) The actors were very believable (although Ewan McGregor's accent was weird), and the visual effects were quite nice. This would probably be better as a rental though, so once you get to the end, you can watch it again and try to figure it all out..

This was not a boring mainstream film which explains why many of you do not like it. I agree that this film is reminiscent of Donnie Darko but it also made me think of The Wizard of Oz... for if parallel dimensions were not at work within this masterpiece then a coma induced dream can explain it. I adored Stay. The acting was noteworthy and the film itself was beautiful - much better then the cookie cutter films that rake in millions at the box office!!

This movie was so bad, that I feel its my duty as a concerned citizen to warn my fellow man. First, the preview, is totally a misrepresentation of the actual film. Someone decided (rightly so) that the move would never sell tickets if it was marketed as the peice of junk that it was so they basically created a totally different movie by compiling clips to suggest other then what you end up getting. Second, the argument that it has depth and is thought provoking is a joke. It has no depth it is the equivilant of a shopping list turned into a 2+ hour movie, and no mater how many times a director trys to fascinate the audience with virtigo inducing blending from irritating scene to irritating scene. It still at the end of the day is a trip to the grocery store. BORING. Finally after being dragged into a similar experiance with "The Forgotton" I am forced to wonder what the requirements are to get a film produced in america? I am so confused, I've seen alot of bad movies but... this goes above and beyond and the fact that people actually enjoyed this blows my mind. The only thing I aquired from watching this film was a resolution to stay away from Hyped up American films. Personally I feel that everyone behind this movie should be charged with murder [...] They wasted 2 hours of my life and countless others. That has to be a crime when the movie is so pointless.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] One of the best movies I've ever seen to be honest. For those who didn't "get it", please, let me explain what I think is the best explanation: parallel universes. The characters get images and memories of other "selves" in other planes of existence. That's why the ending is so out of nowhere, you just jump worlds. Look at the part when Gosling and McGregor are standing on the Brooklyn bridge with all those vague, spiderweb-like lines floating around, and the parts where a moment repeats itself over three times, the worlds are just grinding together and it's conflicting reality, space and time. Common people, I'm 16 and I understood it. Go read something about quantum physics.

This was an abslolute boorish film that I'm sure would appeal to both grande machiato drinking film / art students and film critics who have lost most of their 5 senses in horrible firworks accidents! Some may say the film was thought provoking but the only thing I could think of from the onset was "how can I get out of the theatre without waking up the people around me? ". I am usually a fan of Mr. McGregors, however, I do think that he could not find himself inside of his character and even displayed what I feel was a lack luster performance... for shame on the cogs in this wheel!

This is an excellent psychological thriller with strong acting performances and interesting camera work and story telling. It's all in the mind of Gosling's character, a sort of afterlife experience.

This movie gets a 7 because of the good directing and good acting. The story-telling was the pits. You know, it's one thing to ask us, as viewers, to question what is reality... but it's entirely another to be lazy in your storytelling. The best stories can be suspensful, confusing and temporarily suspend our disblief, but to be truly believable there must be a reason for everything that happens in the story. But it seems the writer just wanted to throw a bunch of crazy stuff together and hope that we'll enjoy the trainwreck that was this movie.

Please ignore all the reviews written by people who didn't understand the movie. It wasn't rocket science, just didn't make sense until the end, like a lot of movies. Just don't look for a conventional plot and you'll be very engrossed. The ending is disturbing but that doesn't ruin it by any means... Full of contradictions, but this is deliberate and is a good thing in my opinion. My only complaint would be that Ewan MacGregor was miscast. Naomi Watts and young Gosling were very good though. One of those movies which overall is very memorable, but the details are hard to remember as it has few reference points. Likely better the second time around (recommend renting it and pausing from time to time to discuss with someone) Best thing about it was the "feel", the atmosphere of it.

God, I loved this movie. It was one of the best movies I have seen in a long while, and that's saying something for me. The effects and camera work was just brilliant and Ryan Gosling really shows his talent. This film really makes you think and wonder. This movie didn't get as much credit as it should have. This film was brilliantly done! Just brilliant, period.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] All a movie for that! Maybe if I live a trauma one day, it could interest me more. But you only find the key of the movie at the really end and you may see this movie a second time to find it better... Ewan McGregor is very good, and I found Ryan Gosling good when I understood why he was so violent at the end and why he wants to commit suicide. But a lot of interrogations remain. For example, when we see everybody 3 by 3, is that means that it represents the three dead people? Is that a clue for the truth? Maybe it's a movie I have to see a second time...

A fascinating, thought provoking film that I was glad to watch a second time. Notable for its unique perspectives in terms of story and filming, also for a sublime performance from Gosling, I think this film will gain a longevity comparable to that of films such as Donnie Darko, and will inspire a hugely diverse range of opinions from its fanbase. Not recommended however for the kind of people who'd gladly spend money to watch, say, Doom, amply demonstrated upon this page.

I didn't understand this movie at all, and I couldn't describe the plot if I tried. But I'm fairly certain that was the director's goal. There's no way a movie could be that confusing and nonsensical by accident. Really excellent acting. The entire thing was interesting, it kept my attention. I'll definitely rent it, and maybe even buy it. If you need a movie to make perfect sense, do NOT see this one. If you're in the mood for plain old entertainment, check it out.

Without giving this movie too much of a thrashing, I thought Stay was okay, although I wouldn't want to see it again. Honestly, I thought the first hour of it was fairly good, but then it just got weird and stupid after that, and I couldn't make head or tail of it. I did think the movie had potential though. It could've soared to the top if it had been thought out a little more tactfully. Anyway, this is more of a renter, than it is worth going to see... PLEASE SAVE YOUR CASH..

I thought Doom was bad, but at least the video game was fun and made it make sense, but this movie went absolutely nowhere, from a film student's point of view, they would have got a passing grade, but besides video editing, I would have rathered to clean my toilet tonight. I would have been far more rewarded to a purpose to my evening.

This is one of the least satisfying movies I have seen in awhile. In some of the other reviews people mentioned "Donnie Darko" as the genre match to this film. I adored Donnie Darko and I highly disliked this film. I left the theatre with a sick feeling, and felt the need to go and rent some lighter fare just to wash the bad taste out of my mouth. Acting was fantastic, and the camera work was interesting yet nauseating and those are the only positives I can come up with. I enjoy movies that leave us with questions, but not movies whose questions either have no answer or are too obscure to retain any meaning. I suggest you skip this movie even as a rental unless you are angry with yourself and want to use it as a cruel and unusual punishment.

It is exactly what it is- a psychological thriller. Therefore, the feeling you will leave with after watching the movie is a very strong confused feeling. If you are one of those people who over-analyze things do not see this because it has to be taken for what it is. It keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Definitely the worst film I saw this year, and one of the worst films I have ever seen. The film lacked a coherent narrative, 3 dimensional characters, and had no sense of direction. The viewer is left bouncing from one pretentious, meaningless scene to the next, with characters smirkingly spouting dialogue that could well have been written by a 5th grader. I had to go home and take a shower after witnessing what the director had vomited all over the screen for a miserable 2 hours. If any of your friends tells you to go see this film, seriously re-evaluate your friendship.

I am not someone that is easily surprised in a movie but I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised in this one. It follows such an original script (in my opinion) and the screenplay and directing are fabulous. This movie isn't straight forward but it is so well done I was amazed. A real artwork. It is the kind of movie you'd go see twice just to put the pieces together and review the beginning knowing what you know after the first viewing. Either way, it is an elaborate puzzle that is magnificiently broken apart and for you to put together, and it does come together at the end! In the genre of momento, eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, etc... Ohh I have to add one thing, Ryan Gosling has got to be one of the greatest actors of his generation. He captured people in the romantic genre with the notebook, and he gave a chilled performance with this one. Watch out for this guy, he may be climbing the ladder slowly but he WILL get to the top!!!

This film is not for everyone. It asks a lot of the audience, for every twist and turn is a magnified and extrapolated view from inside a mind that is trying to make sense of a powerful event. Visually clever for all the right reasons. If you want light popcorn fare, stay away. If you want a film that will linger and leave you with questions, check it out. Definitely worth a second viewing!

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] The movie is too "all over the place" Which is fine if the movies ties it all together at the end, but this one doesn't. It leaves you asking "so who is that, how did he die, how does he have the healing powers of God, etc" It leaves you guessing, and not in a good why. I don't recommend it.

I wasn't totally disappointed with the movie. I found myself asking "what's the point of all this? " at times but the ending redeemed it somwhat. The general idea is lifted from "Jacob's Ladder, " (1990 with Tim Robbins) *That* movie really grabs you - very well done. Check it out [...] I recommend renting JL than seeing Stay.

This movie would have worked better as a small budget, independent film - the expectations of the mass audience for large budget American films are totally different. It is not an easy film to get into. The story is difficult to follow and the director adopts a narrative style that is jarring at times. That said, it is an unusual film by a major director, well acted and scripted. The movies saving grace is that the characters are very sympathetic. If you are willing to trust the director, its a wild ride that is quite affecting in the end.

Have you found yourself engaged by movies such as Donnie Darko, Momento, or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind? Well then, this is certainly the film for you. Its a movie that makes you think. Its a movie that has trust in its viewers intelligence, something that a lot of films today lack. Dont come into this film expecting it to answer all the questions and wrap up all the loose ends, thats for you to do. A must see.

There were a lot of subtle and not-so-subtle oddities during the film... definitely something to watch closely and pay attention to. I go weekly to the movies- so Im entering my opinions weekly on the movies I see. This movie had terrific acting in it- I must say- It keeps you intrested for the most part of the movie- then it gets to one point in the movie- and you keep telling yourself- I cant wait to see what all this means- BUT- the movie gets to the end- and you scratch your head asking yourself- Did I miss something? I asked my husband and he said *I dont get it* and looked around as we were leaving- and the other people that were there seemed as lost as we were. Hope your experience was better then ours. It's not because it's a bad movie- I just think maybe you have to have more of an open mind- and like alot of people- we need to know the start and finish of a movie- our minds arent open to our own interpretations. Hope you enjoy.

Sam Foster, played by Ewan McGregor is a psychologist who lives in New York with his girlfriend, she is an artist that attempted to commit suicide. Sam meets with one of his colleagues patient Henry Lethem, played by Ryan Gosling, he does a terrific job and is convincing in his role. He hears voices in his head and wants to kill himself on a specific date. Then all of a sudden reality and fiction get mixed up. I got confused after 30min. Into the movie. The story seems to chase it's tail over and over again with cliches we seen hundreds of times. In the end you'll find yourself scratching your head saying, what was that. Let this film slide right to the corner Block Buster.
