The film begins, then appear these words: Author's Note: The following is a work of fiction. Any resemblance to persons living or dead is purely coincidental. Especially you Jenny Beckman. Bitch. Im hooked already. Movies are made to entertain, to thrill, to create excitement, to make you feel emotions, good or bad, but once in a while, there is a film that comes out of the blue and makes you feel like no other movies before. It was true with Amélie, I felt the same coming out of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and now I add (500) Days of Summer to that short list of films that made me feel special for a little while. This is the story of boy meets girl. Boy falls in love, but girl doesnt. She loves The Smiths, Id fall in love with her too. The narrator quickly informs us it's not a love story though. From the first minute we know how its going to end as the film just back and forth in the time that last the relationship between those two characters. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is Tom, a lighter role than what we might be used to see him play in the last few years, but he takes the job as seriously and proves the same efficiency. He is charming and honest. Zooey Deschanel is Summer, once again she plays the cute and quirky girl, but she is so good at it. Their chemistry is great and sincere, they make quite the believable couple, even though, they (she) dont want to put a label on it. (500) Days of Summer is a somewhat profound dissection of a relationship, some scenes are shown early on but our read changes when the scene is showed again towards the end. It's the same in real life, love (whatever it is) is blinding and perceptions can change when looking back at smaller events. Like real life, (500) Days of Summer has its share of drama and comedy, and they come in the right amount. It feels very genuine, thoughtful and even inspiring in some ways. A film not to be missed about the nature of relationship, but also about what its really like to be confused by feelings we dont understand. The soundtrack is amazing and the pacing is perfect. Makes you smile, might make you cry, and will make you feel so good inside, exactly what I needed right now. A film I will cherish for a long time. Summer: You weren't wrong, Tom. You were just wrong about me.
