There are a few dead giveaways that the "real footage" is made-up: 1. Having them come at exactly 3:33am Alaska time, when the supposed visitors would have any concept of human numbers or time. This is an obvious Hollywood-writer schtick. 2. The "translation" is not linguistically possible, as even highly specialized linguists have no idea what Ancient Sumerian sounded like... and with the sound quality of the "footage", even translating a known language would be tough. Also, in the translation, the visitors wanting her to stop her experiment just sound totally far-fetched, why would they care? 3. A very Blair Witch-like giveaway: having actors (like the policeman on surveillance) see something and talk about it, but then not show anything, allowing the audience imagination to take over... been there done that with Blair Witch, doesn't work on me anymore. Overall much better than Blair Witch, more Hollywood and much bigger budget though so it ought to be...

Watch the previews first before you see it to see if it's something that you think you'd enjoy. It is more of a documentary than an actual movie. Wasn't for me personally.

I thought this movie is for people that belive in supernatural life forms or don't but if you are planning on sleeping that night then don't see it, all the way around it was a good movie but it would be hard to believe if they did not have any real footage of this crazy sh&@#! Happening but it really makes you think. Oh and something that is kinda scary is in the movie the guy said " I wake up every night lie there wide awake' well that's exactly what happend to the night I saw the movie I did not get woken up by any thing I just woke up and when 3:33pm came I was scared sh!$%& less well a must see.

A great movie, I find it sad that others who've rated this movie poorly are so ignorant and resistant to the "possibility" of UFOs. The movie was well directed and well acted, and the cut scenes with "actual" footage was quite refreshing. A definite "must-see" for those with open minds.

I don't know what to say except that this was pretty much the stupidest movie I have ever seen. I cannot believe that I wasted an hour and a half of my life, and will never get it back... ever. I shouldn't be wasting any more of my life writing a review about this nonsense.

I believe this is the first time I have ever given a movie a 1/10. I would give this one lower but 1 is as low as I can go. The two people I was with give it a 0/10. Where to start? The acting was horrendous, the storyline was idiotic, etc. The movie was so stupid it was insulting to my intelligence. I could maybe have given the movie a 2/10 if it were not for the fact that the movie tries so hard to make you believe this was based on a true story. It is not! The live footage was so obviously phoney I laughed and laughed. OMG this was dumb! At least I will never mistakenly rent this movie on DVD or see it on television. Yikes, what a stinker. To think there are actually people out there gullible enough to fall for this garbage makes me wonder what is happening to the intelligence of the human race.

Again, you have to like the genre to like the film. That being said, the attempts to wed the Milla footage (of course they needed that, she's hot, and it allows the film makers to use a hot actress when, to keep it believable, b/c the rest of the world is not so hot, we would cease to suspend disbelief) with the pseudo-verite footage worked well for the first time I've seen it tried like this. The tension builds, as does the frustration with the characters who do not believe Milla's character's statements. This is well paced, the writing is servicable, and the film makers understood when to reveal and when to hold back. I was hoping for a bigger payoff at the end, but it was well worth it nonetheless.

I found it gripping and mysterious and a little frightening at times. I believe there are OTHERS among us, as the evidence is just too high to ignore, not from this film necessarily but previous evidence. This film however brings a new heavily EVIL light to aliens, which never entered my mind much before as a possibility, since previous abduction cases I had heard about were not so EXTREME. Overall it really gets you thinking.

When watching this movie I have done something I have never EVER done before. I screamed. Yes. I jumped out of my seat and I made a little sound. (be ready when the man laying in his bed goes under hypnosis, your about to see something reeeally messed up) I'm a huge horror fan and not so much an alien fan, but this movie is definantly on the top of my list. My boyfriend and I left the theater completely disturbed hoping that the "real footage" was just a blair witch type of stunt... im not a "believer", I think the whole thing is crazy... really makes you think at the end of the movie.

This movie was a joke! Those scenes that were supposed to be real footage, is NOT real footage. If they really wanted people to believe it, they would have been better of to use actors and actresses nobody has seen before. I don't know but it is very hard to believe that a human being with a functioning brain would believe any of this...

It was great, different from other "Alien movies" and very well done. Because of the "real footage" they added, the movie looks like a documentary at times, so you start taking it seriously and it gets really scary and horrifying. Good acting also, really entertaining, must see!

Interesting faux documentary style reminds me of "The Blair Witch Project." It's also about the control of fear in the face of un-fathomable events. A lot of screaming in it.

The story did not make any sense at all. At one point it just looked like they weren't abducted by aliens but possessed by the devil and just needed a Excorcism. Too many people did not want to collaborate with the movie and most of all people mostly pointed out that the disappearance of the little girl was probably not an abduction but a disapparance caused by the main character, who then came up with the story that she had been abducted.

The movie can be unsettling and disturbing, but there's also a little part of me that is very "meh" about the movie at the same time. The movie frequently goes into a split screen with the "archived/real" footage and the actual movie... and sometimes you feel like please just choose one or the other. I also kind of feel like the whole Owl aspect completely makes you forget this is a movie about aliens for the first 45-50 minutes, it seems like it's a move about creepy owls. With that being said... there is a scene in this movie where the guy is laying in bed being hypnotized and he jolts up in such a frightening manner the whole theatre jumped simultaneously! It's one of the scariest scenes I can recall in recent memory, moreso than the ending to Paranormal Activity. If you are intrigued about aliens and the unexplainable I say check this one out.

I was lucky enough to see a pre-screening of this movie the day before it's release date, although I'm glad I didn't have to pay the admission. To be honest, this film wasn't all that great, despite the enormous hype from it's preview. I was actually expecting a lot more, given the fact that the director and writer led you to believe that this documentary-like picture was fact based. In short, it's just all a big hoax. Nothing about this movie is real, but they go on and on as though it is. One thing that especially annoyed me was when they compared the archival footage, with the actual movie. I found that this was difficult to follow, as it took away the enjoyment of viewing it to that of a normal movie. As for the so-called alien or aliens, well, that in itself was pretty hokey and unrealistic. Really, what they should have done was given further explanation into the alien or aliens intentions, history, race, origins, and so forth. I can't believe there was nothing to tell... you are left hanging and you are forced to draw from your own conclusions about what this story all means. There wasn't anything remotely scary about this movie either or so I found. It didn't have the slightest effect on me, not like Paranormal Activity. Lastly, I could keep bashing this film, but I think I've given my two cents worth. Please keep away from this rubbish... it's not worth your hard earned money or your time.

Why is it so hard to believe something when evidence is staring at you in the face, not believing is saying that you can't stomach the reality.

I was pretty exited about that movie... but I did NOT buy it for ONE second. The actress who plays Abbygail Tyler SUCKS. And I am not talking about Milla Jovovich, I'm talking about the sooo called real footage of Abbygail Tyler. I did not buy her lousy acting one bit. This is fake. Don't waste your time.

This movie is a waste of time. I wanted to see a science fiction movie but instead I got the same crap that I would get by watching a "dramatization" with bad acting about some closet ghost in a lost town. This is not sci-fi nor a suspense. There is no "real" footage; this is just a movie. And for those that actually believe in alien abductions, please read "The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark" by Carl Sagan.

An absolute creepy, thriller that I would say is a must see movie this year. I believe the people who rate this movie low are doing it over their own religious beliefs. They are simply angered over the message being displayed by the film. Religious nuts need not see this movie.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.]
Positively riveting film, and especially interesting due to original camcorder and audio tape recordings used, some of which is positively bizarre, disturbing and unexplainable. In the year 2000, a psychologist in the Alaska town of Nome (pop., 3590), begins to notice similarities between the stories of several of her patients. Several of the patients report having trouble sleeping and waking up in the middle of the night and seeing a white owl at their window. She decides to hypnotize one of the patients so that he can try to recall in greater detail what he saw, since he believes he owl came into his room and wasn't really an owl... The original video footage of the patient providing his account is electrifying and his shows an incredible amount of fright. There's footage of another patient that must be seen to be believed, levitating several inches above the bed as he goes under hypnosis to recall his recent encounter. This scene made me do something that I haven't done in year, almost jump out of my seat. Names are changed, save for that of the main character, Dr. Abby Tyler, who is portrayed by Milla Jovovich. There's also several minutes of footage of interview footage between the director of the movie and the real Dr. Tyler. A university professor, who works somewhere in Canada, flew up to Nome during this time and was able to identify some of the vocalizations from the unidentified sources as being Sumerian in origin. He then goes on to discuss what you will see in typical Sumerian artwork, in any museum exhibit, which sort of ties into the story. The film makes a point of not trying to preach to you any conclusion and in fact, both Jovovich and the director tell you to make up your own mind at the end of the film. Jovovich also warns people at the beginning of the film that some scenes may be disturbing. She was correct. The film points out that FBI have had over 2000 visits to Nome since the 60s to investigate mysterious deaths and missing persons. Anchorage, by comparison, is 76 times larger and has had about 350 FBI visits during the same period. The acting is well done. Will Patton (No Way Out), Elias Koteas (Ararat, Exotica) and Hakeem Kae-Kazim (24, Hotel Rwanda) are not household names, but you'll recognize their faces from other films.

This a terrible movie. I hope the director and the writer do not actually believe the message that they are delivering to the viewers. Their message is typical. They always want the people to fear something and need help from the ‘US heroes’. Why these so called aliens always seen in the US? Why they are always targeting the US citizen? Why the tapes (in this movie) were not clear to show the actual events? Why the US military and the famous spying agency never seen those objects on with their highly advanced technology. The answer is: Aliens are not real.

There are "documentaries" (THE CORPORATION)," moc-umentaries" (DARK SIDE OF THE MOON), and now a completely original form: the shocumentary. And I must admit that it worked, at least for the audience that I sat among -- I was the only person who left during the credits; everyone else just sat there listening, not to a closing tune, but to the voices of people on radio shows saying they saw a UFO. You can't be too hard on this film because it is an original invention stylistically, it does seem t work with a broad audience (they all go home and google the name "Abigail Tyler" to see if the story is true) Finally, it is very easy for the performers in the original footage material to reveal that they are acting, and it is also easy to use a camera technique that makes clear that the footage is fake. They covered their basis well on all fronts. It's also interesting how the "original" film and voices, duplicated alongside the movie footage add credibility to the fear. Without that credibility the movie would be a ghost town. Did it really happen? Well, like the actor-testifiers at the end say: that's up to you to decide. Unlike, of course, the answer to 1+1 you get to make a decision for yourself. That ought to tell you something. Anyway, you don't usually pay ten bucks to form an opinion; you do it for the entertainment. And opinion forming in this film is entertaining.

I gave it a 9 because I actually got goose bumps while watching it which I don't think has ever happened and it made me jump a few times which usually never happens either because I can usually see stuff coming. Whether or not its true or made up I thought it was interesting and got you thinking. Definitely worth seeing.

Lame! If I'd have known it was about alien abduction filmed in Blair Witch style I wouldn't have wasted my friends money. The 3 scary parts were predictable and made me yawn. This movie is nearly as bad as Where the Wild Things Are. Too tame. Quite Lame. Real Shame.

This amateurish pseudo-documentary seemed to go on forever without getting anywhere. If you like scary movies and don't mind tiresome cliches and effects that have been done better elsewhere, then this is the film for you. Personally, I left the theater feeling that I had wasted $10.00 on something that wasn't even mildly entertaining.

The Fourth Kind is very captivating and quite frightening. It's not for the faint of heart. I don't scare very easily but I found myself feeling quite anxious throughout the movie. Who knows if the 'real' footage is in fact real but if it is... yikes. Anxious people or those who scare easily might not want to watch this movie. After the movie, I found myself feeling a bit hesitant about turning off the lights to go to sleep. Yep, it's creepy but good.
