Brilliant! Why this movie did not win an Oscar is beyond me. A must see.

Absolutely hilarious! I can see how some may not enjoy the sense of humour, but I loved it! This movie is disturbing and sad, but also brilliant. One cannot help but pity Laura Linney's character for having to deal with her outrageously egotistical husband... he's unbearable! But back to the point, which is that this is a fabulous movie that ends much too soon.

One cannot fault the acting for this annoying, humourless Wes Anderson-like comedy-drama, but I am getting so sick and tired of seeing movies about supposedly "dysfunctional" families. We need more movies that promote solid Christian family values instead of these Godless, communistic celebrations of dirty hippies with no values and how they ruin their childrens' lives.

Great movie especially if you like Wes Anderson movies. While he did not direct this he did produce it. It is like one of his movies done as a straight drama with darker humor. All around good music too.

The dialogue and the acting is sublime. Best ensemble piece I've seen in a long time. Anyone can enjoy this film, whether or not they come from a torn apart family.

Depressing and weird. The story of complex and unusual characters who seem to undergo almost no development, but instead flutter around in uncertain methods of interacting with each other and the world. Some, but not enough hope is indicated as a possibility at the end.

Excellent movie, good story line and well played. A contemporary family problem that is not often seen at the movies. Must be seen.

A story about how people put down others in order to hide their fears and protect their precious egos. I usually like indie films but this one somehow misses the mark, despite a good plot and strong performances by all the actors.

Great acting. Jeff Daniels is awesome. A little weird and granola at times but so was the couple in the movie.

A chilly depiction of what goes on in most of our families... an overview of children of trauma... intimacy problems... problems in expressing feelings, countless millions of us struggle with these kinds of dysfuncions every day... Dr Phil to the rescue...

I enjoyed it more than I expected, as "family drama" isn't normally my favourite genre. I was pleasantly surprised: the writing/dialogue and the characters/acting are cuts above most movies. There's enough humour to make a potentially heavy topic, the effect of divorce on a family, to be entertaining, without trivializing the theme. I also enjoyed Winnipeg raised Anna Paquet's supporting role as an English student who gets tossed into the mix. And it does a good job of depicting complexities of family relationships.

Superb writing makes this film stand out--way out--from the Hollywood pre-packaged hooey. Fine performances all around. You sit close enough to the characters' neuroses to laugh out loud. No car chases but NYC (Brooklyn) never looked so great.

This is one whale of a movie. The acting from the four leads is note perfect. (The only sour note is a very annoying Anna Paquin. ) Be prepared for a very realistic look at the effects of divorce on children. This movie pulls no punches and my friend, who is the child is a bad divorce, found this movie very difficult to watch. ItÂ’s a thought provoking and well written movie that will give you pause and send you running home to hug your kids..

Good stuff. Funny and disturbing. The kid who plays the youngest son is priceless. Anna Paquin is beautiful. Jeff Daniels has awesome comic timing. The ending was abit... eh. It came suddenly. I could have watched more... I guess that's a sign that it was a good movie, then. It was a bit short too.
