This is the crap you get when an actor thinks he can write a screenplay. Add an amateur movie director and you have a boring, long, choppy over rated movie. It lacked flow and chemistry. Jumping on the coattails of a recent barrage of famous biographies coming from Hollywood, they seemed to have forgotten to try get a story. They try the story of a cold, heartless, manipulative, liar criminal who would do anything for money. And add a couple of murderers for him to feed from. It is difficult to feel for Capote and what became of him after seeing his conscious at its worst. I could see what they were trying to portray, but you just dont feel it. If you arent a cult member of In Cold Blood, I say stay away.

I agree that Phillip Seymour Hoffman did an excellent job, the way he changed his voice to just become more his character. His acting was absolutely phenomenal. This story was chilling and sad. It made me think about Capote more, and how unique a person he truly was. What was sad was how Capote got so emotionally involved in his work of researches his novel that it would lead to his success and total demise as a writer and as a person, the experience really marked him. Hard to connect this with Breakfast at Tiffanys, although I think that was a weird storyline underneath some of the more ;regular; scenes. Amazing movie, that leaves you just sitting and staring for a while.

The movie was very emotional and intriguing. The friendship and deceit were both very believable. The performances were fabulous.

I loved Capote. The movie was not too long, not too short, it showed the right scenes and it was good!!! Phillip Seymour Hoffman... WOW... I'm speechless about his performance. Also, the DVD extra features are very interesting, it makes you like the movie even more. Now, I really want to read Capote's Biography book and In Cold Blood.

An excellent performance by Hoffman. A very interesting glimpse into that era. The contrast shown between the intellectual world of the New York writer's scene and small town America is very well portrayed. For some strange reason in my memory the movie is in black and white even though it is actually in colour. I will see the movie again."Capote" and "In Cold Blood" would make a classic double bill.

Master acting and a scrupulously blunt screenplay make "Capote" a great film but it is far from being a classic. Perhaps so as not to detract from the film's self-evident strengths, no risks are taken: the cinematography is functional; the score is tame and borrowed. Miller must do more next time to appeal to the heart. With "Capote", he certainly has not failed to appeal to the mind.

Philip Seymour Hoffman delivered a great performance and was consistant as well. Story was a little slow but good. [...]

The thing is... I do not regret having seen it because Philip Seymor Hoffman is absolutely amazing. The story is so so, but his acting is absolutely sublime!!! That's why it's hard to rate this film. Everyone has to see this movie... not because it's gonna change your life or anything like that, but because the acting will blow your mind!

An odd film, but worth the watch. P. S. H is great as Capote, worth watching for his performance.

I'm reluctant to rate this movie so low because I believe that technically it probably should be classified as a "good movie" due to the quality of acting and filmaking... HOWEVER, it is just SO SLOW and boring that I need to flag it as such as a warning to people! Several people left the theatre when I was watching this film, and I was tempted myself several times... I was just so relieved when it was over! The acting is great, and I suppose if you are really into Truman Capote and "In Cold Blood" you might be entertained, but I think for the general public this movie is not going to be highly enjoyed. If you must try it wait till it comes on video so you can put it on pause and take a break from the boredom.

An odd film, very much relying on characterization. Dark mood and atmosphere. It may help to have some historical perspective on life in mid-west America in the last century.

I had to see this movie before the Oscars. If PSH is going to walk off with best actor (and he seems to have it sewn up) I had to see the performance that would beat the sublime Heath Ledger. While this is certainly an impressive performance I found it very cold and almost clinical, perhaps that's just the way Capote was. This is a decent movie, nothing flashy here, it more or less tells a story from start to finish. The supporting cast is great. It's an interesting story, one that I wasn't familiar with and I think I may read Capote's book as a result. But all in all, it's a very conventional movie featuring some notable performances. Certainly you can wait for the DVD. The one thing that did impress itself upon me is that Truman Capote appears to have been a very selfish, calculating, and unpleasant man.

Philip Seymour Hoffman's performance is nothing short of brilliant in this intriguing and beautiful film. The movie is a seemingly slow paced film, however Hoffman's portrail of the complex Capote continually aroused emotion within me.

Outstanding acting in the movie. I can see why Philip Seymour Hoffman is in the running for best actor at the Oscars. Aside from that, the movie is not that entertaining. I work in the field of corrections, so I can see how one can gain sympathy or empathy for the convicted. However, the movie was just not that intriguing.

Slow and dull, that should be the title. Yes, Seymore is, as he's always been, fantastic in this role but other than that this film is uninspiring, narcissist and self-indulgent. Unless, you read the book and know the story, you can't possibly appreciate this film. Too much hype and buzz for nothing. What a waste of celluloide!

When I read the book, I was fascinated and couldn't put it down. Now that I have seen the movie, Seymour, in my opinion, gives the performance of his career, and the performance of the year. He was in every scene, and I was totally mesmerized throughout the movie by his portrayal of Capote. He was Capote: the voice, the body language, the personality. Hats off to Seymour. It was 2 hours of complete enjoyment.

A beautifully crafted film, haunting in its vastly lonely landscapes, both internal and external. It interweaves the lives of two people on the fringe of society, one famous and the other infamous, leaving the viewer wondering whose life is more tragic, how much more often than we readily see are the perpetrators of sensationalism and crime as much victims as those who are innocently sacrificed by them.

This was a great movie, definitely one you'd want to see. The acting was great, the casting was great, and the story was very captivating. Despite being slow-moving, Capote manages to create profound characters and bring them to life in realistic ways. It's amazing to watch Mr. Capote's book unfold in a vignette of his own life. The bond he creates with Smith seems weakly portrayed at times, but is undeniably there. It all worked very well. The characters were incredibly memorable. It is deserving of its Oscar nominations.

A tour de force is delivered by Philip Seymour Hoffman. This film is the ideal vehicle to brilliantly showcase this actor. He will walk away with the Oscar for best leading male performance at this year awards. The Academy should also hand a supporting oscar nomination to Clifton Collins Jr. For crafting a multi-level portrayal of the convicted killer Perry Smith. The film may appear slow in parts to viewers unfamiliar with the personality that was Capote, yet it is very interresting to see how Truman Capote (a cheezy master of the 1960s talk show circuit) constantly worked at manipulating his audiences, public & readers. This film is for a mature audience.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] What a manipulator - he basically lies to be able to write his book. A lot of details were left out, like whatever happened at the trial, which felt a bit strange. At the end, in the credits, they say he died of complications of alcoholism. Basically, it's a nice way to say that he drank himself to death. Interesting movie, but not as good as I thought it would be based on the comments I read on this site. The second half makes up for the first...

Lots of good intentions and the subject alone is a stunner. But the film really lacks a vision and some scenes can leave you cold when they should have you totally involved. So what's left ; the acting, particularly amazing Catherine Keener also good is Hoffman, even if over the top. As for the rest, far too conventional.

Here is the deal... this is how I have been determining w my gf which movies to fork over $26 (for two) to see a movie... [...] I think I'm realizing that I purely want to be entertained... and forget about the real world for 2 hours... the frustrating thing is that we have this artistic endeavours by supposed amazing film makers that receive high ratings from the critics but they are highly BORING movies... maybe I'm just simple minded and need to be entertained at the most basic levels but I would much rather see wedding crashers or 40 year old virgin then this snore of artistic crap... I just want to be entertained... nuff said...

Hoffman should win the Oscar for this performance. I always knew him to be a good actor but I was still terribly impressed. To me, Capote illustrates why geniuses have difficulty functionning in society. Despite Capote's undeniable intelligence, he lacked the cognitive skills to properly interact with people around him. I found the movie fascinating and, having not read the book, I plan to look it up at my next stop in a bookstore.

Hoffman, Miller and Futterman will be names to be reckoned with after this movie. Hoffman was Capote and Capote was Hoffman. This is a movie for the history books and one for the Oscars. This is as good as it gets onscreen..

Capote is a great movie. It is a quiet force that grabs you and carry you throughout the hours. The acting is right on pitch, the storyline is good. It shows the difficulty to confront ourselves, our choices our realities. It also shows the struggle to maintain healthy relationships with our love ones when we are very eager to succed professionally. Very good it better gets a few statues at the oscar..

The best thing about this psychological drama is the portrayal of the two main characters (Capote, the author and Smith, the murderer) as having multifacted personalities. The viewers' emotions are masterfully toyed with to feel compassion for the murderer, at the same time as abhor his actions. And Capote may be the hero in this film, but he certainly isn't depicted as a morally admirable man. I left this movie feeling emotionally shaken but satisfied with having seen something a little different.

This movie was fantastic. Phillip Seymour Hoffman should win the oscar for best actor - he was amazing! I saw Brokeback Mountain last week, and despite all the hype, these two movies are not even in the same league. Capote is far more engaging and deserving of awards - for the acting, direction and production. Katherine Keener was also excellent.

I try to see predominately 'good' movies, and the majority of my ratings are '7'. This is my first '10' in a couple of years. Philip Seymore Hoffman disappeared from the screen almost immediately and was replaced by Truman Capote. This movie is not about an event in american literature. Capote himself was the 'event'.
