The wild things are each aspects of the boy’s personality and as such there is a lot of darkness and conflict. This would be a great movie to have troubled children watch as part of a psychological therapy in which the externalization of feelings is intended. However, for the general movie going public that wants a nice night out for the kids…bad idea. Be warned…much darkness.

Honestly this movie is super rad! It's rather dissapointing to read the comments on here about the movie aiming at children. He captured the essence of a mischievous little boy perfectly with an imagination. This movie wasn't aimed to please little kids but to please the people who enjoyed the book when they were kids... like myself. I'm 25 and it was one of my favourites when I was young. This film brought me back to my childhood imagination but held me at my current state of appreciation of good story telling teamed with symbolism. What people need to understand is that in the book max goes to where the wild things are and "they roar their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth"and want to eat him... in a realistic retelling of the book on film... how do you think that would go without getting dark? And the wild things are obviously untamed and you think max can just show up and it be gumdrops and lollipops? People... think deeper just as the writers and Spike Jonze did. This film is super rad if your into intelligence, imagination, creativity and fantasy. It's great but you just have to engage yourself into the lives of personified wild things.
