Wow... first time I have walked into a theatre and seen so many people my age and older!! That being said, it's almost embarrassing when 55+ year old women are cooing a cawing about an actor out loud for everyone to hear. Geezz. Go out much? Anyway, the best part was the humor injected into this dry epic by the little boy. It had it's moments, but it was a movie that had me glancing at my watch more than 3-4 times...

Not quite a masterpiece per se because not everything gelled in terms of the cgi and live action sequences but if you are a Laz B. Fan, as usual, he takes you on a far richer emotional journey. The cultural aspect of the film in terms of the Aboriginee backstory is pure magic. As an anthropology student I was taught to suspend my own beliefs and adopt the beliefs and morals of the culture in question. It is not a question of magic powers that the boy displays but in his belief to shape his own reality according to the traditions (the Dreaming)of his culture. The beautifully realized emotional relationships between the characters brought tears to my eyes throughout the second part of the film. The story morphs from comedy to romance to drama and action. It is a pure love story for country and our fellow human beings on many levels. Leave your sense of realism at the door, bring a box of kleenex and enjoy one of the best stories ever filmed in the last decade.

This could have been a very good movie because of the story. Unfortunately it is much too "Hollywood" and much too long. Nicole Kidman's expression does not ever change (too much Botox? , the movie is much too loud, Etc. Just too much. The young lad playing Nullah and the old grandfather and the scenery are the only redeeming qualities of the movie.

Disappointing really. Nicole Kidman is quite bad in this movie. The relationship between her character and Hugh's is not profound enough, they don't click. Characters personalities not explored enough and with an almost 3 hour movie, they could have taken some time to do this. The boy steals the show definitely... Some scene like the 'Water bucket' with Hugh Jackman are laughable if not totally ridiculous which is a total shame 'cause the guy is hot... Not worth seeing in cinema really...

Didn't much like the story. I appreciated a little some of the history. Most enjoyed the cinematography (beautiful scenery) It's a long movie (I wanted it to end sooner) Enjoy the show!

I loved the movie. Maye because I am a Nicole Kidman fan. She was absolutely terrific in that role. She looked gorgeous. Hugh was perfect too, and soo hot. The little boy is such a wonderful discovery! The paysages, decors, cameras, the way it's filmed, it's awesome. But to me, the story doesn't make any sens. The first part of blabla is not related much with the second part of war. About the racial and aboriginal causes, we understood that just at the end of the movie! I think Baz wanted to put many things in one film, so it was hard and the basic story is not what I was expecting. Even if the movie is long, there's action, comedy, drama, romance, family moments... It has it's qualities. Worth seeing!

A very good movie. A lot better than expected, the critics were really harsh on this one. Nicole Kidman really is the most mesmerizing actress of our time. Really good movie, good acting, beautiful scenery, a revelation with the young boy. I didn't think it was too long it was just right, finally an epic movie that is not painful to watch. Thumbs up.

For the first 20 minutes or so I thought of actually getting up and leaving - from the annoying narration of the kid, to the ridiculous fake bar fight and Kidman's over the top reaction to her belongings being thrown around. But I ended up staying for the rest of the movie and I am truly glad that I did. This movie minus the first 20 minutes or so is one of the better movies I have seen in months. Thank the Lord that Hollywood still believes in making good movies. Breathtaking scenery, great action scenes in the middle and end of the movie. Well acted throughout, especially Kidman, who by the way looked absolutely gorgeous in this movie - like the dress she wears at the gala, it practically blew me off my seat. But the kid was a bit annoying and from time to time it was difficult in understanding what he was saying. All in all a great film, a must see, somewhat of a tearjerker so ladies and maybe the guys too, bring some kleenex, you will probably need it. Peace.

I think it was wonderful I took my two young teenagers and I felt great about them knowing about the history of Australia and enjoying a film that is full of action and drama and romance with out being full of senses less violence and foul language.

This movie had no direction. Was it a romance, a historical drama, a political statement, a western-style ranch movie, a romance? Hugh Jackman was wonderful but the plot was all over the place. I started looking at my watch half way in.

I very much liked Brandon Walters performance as Nullah. Okay western type melodrama, seemed to lose focus at the end, a little over long. The film didn't live up to my expectations.

I love Baz Luhrmann (sp? ) but this was indeed a step back from Moulin Rouge. I love the fact that you can see his infactuation with Kidman and his true romantic heart in the film, but the homage to past epics ended up to be stealing plot points from Lawrence of Arabia and songs from Wizard of Oz. Of course the visuals were stunning and the acting was decent (loved Nullah) but overall it COULD have been better, I'm still happy with the outcome.

Nicole Kidman was not right for the part and the movie skipped around unnecessarily. The sets seemed very Hollywood.

This film has an air of artificiality to it and the acting is not very realistic except for the little boy. I am a fan of Nicole Kidman but she is poorly cast in this film. I wouldn't waste my time seeing it unless you have an interest in Australian scenery.

I loved this movie and I guess it helped that I also loved Hugh Jackman. The movie had scenery, history, adventure, suspense, murder, love, some comedy and tragedy. I would highly recommend it. It was long but I would have liked even more. The newspaper critics don't know what they're talking about as usual!

I loved this movie, and not just because Hugh Jackman is one of my favourite actors. I thought the interaction between Hugh & Nicole was great! It wasn't love at first sight. The scenery was breathtaking! The cattle and horse scenes were incredible! Lastly the little Aboriginal boy pretty much stole the whole movie!

This movie was so terrible I left half way through. Nicole is absolutely useless and I kept praying for Hugh to show his claws and fight Magneto. Don't see this movie and I think the whole history aspect of it was made up.

What's the problem with two movies in one? More for your movie dollars, yes? The first two hours of the Western are classic escapism and the 45 minute War Story is a bonus. What's not to like? It's great entertainment. Good on you, Australia.

I loved it. I have always loved westerns and really enjoy epic type films and this is both. It is a long film but I did not notice the length as the movie was that good. The acting and the scenery and the story too made this an enjoyable visit to the theatre.

Gone With The Wind + Crocodile Dundee = CHEESE. The glue holding this 'tourist promotion' together was brilliant cinematography (Baz Luhrmannand) and an enchanting performance from a young actor by the name of Brandon Walters, who plays Nullah. Though well acted, the lead characters were cliche and predictable. In 2007, Baz Luhrmann known for directing Moulin Rouge and Romeo + Juliet (1996), was asked by Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, to make new promotion ads of Australia as a tourist destination. The result is this overrated movie, from experience so is traveling to Australia. A trip to the theater or a trip to Oceania would be better spent on something worthwhile. After three hours of "are you serious!? " You have the urge to 'turn back time' as Cher would say. Since my Delorean is in the shop, I'm still out the $25 and four hours of sacred life donated to this cheese whiz flick. Unless you're from Australia this movie will put you to sleep, indefinitely.

The star of this over promoted travelogue is the helicopter pilot who guided the aerial shots. Everything else is pretty banal fluff. There is little chemistry between Jackman and Kidman; the only interesting character is the aboriginal grandfather who sings for his grandson. Nationalism is superficially related to The Wizard of Oz motif. There is little depth beyond melodrama and the CGI effects are a grandiose distraction. All in all, you'd have a heartier time by putting shrimp on the barbie, snapping open a Foster's and re-watching Crocodile Dundee. At least Mick had a conscious sense of self-lampoon.
