Great scenario and director, touches a few important social phenomenens, mostly accepted in north American societies; The music was very poor although very good in beginning.

A surprise of a movie, based on a 1960's play it definitely plays into that era. Not at all what I had expected but it was entertaining in a quirky way. Definitely theatre inspired. Murder mystery with twists and turns I think it would be better if we could see it updated.

During the first 15min I couldn't believe I had paid to see this movie; however, as the movie rolled on so did the turns in the plot. I realized that it was an intentional parody/satirical comedy and with the added mystery I ended up enjoying it.

I saw some of 8 Women but unfortunately I slept through most of it. I guess it was quite entertaining enough to keep me awake even with all of the singing 5out of 10 because it only lept me awake half of the time.

I haven't seen a lot of musicals but this one is one of the best movies I've seen. Even though it might be slow sometimes, it is more interesting then most of the movies out right now. Plus the music is not so bad.

Such a strange movie... good premise but not at all as good as it sounds.

Off the wall, loved the twists... a colorful barrage for "a menage a huite" just when you think, who would have thunk... ha!

It was okay. The acting was great, I thought. A really good cast. But it's really missing something- like credibility. The songs don't really fit in- I don't know why this is a musical.

Enjoyed this movie very much. I went to this movie with my French girlfriend and, of course, she understood the French language and I read the subtitles because I don't speak French. But, I travelled in France in 1985, alone, and met many wonderful women and this movie reminded me of these women. They were so French. I find French women are unique is some ways and this movie certainly depicted this unique character so well. I loved it. More of this kind of movie please. Thank you.

It was a beautiful movie to watch--opulent, elegant, and crisp, with wonderful art direction, costuming, and cinematography. This is my first experience with a French musical, and while I could see what they were trying to do, I don't think they truly pulled it off. It became quite redundant at points, and was too long. Though I understand that the plot contrivances were there intentionally, I though they were too forced--too "look at me". All the veterans, particularly Huppert, Deneuve, and Ardant, gave fine performances, but I don't think they had much to work with. At times, it felt like the whole thing was just thrown together, while at other times, it seemed too stage-y for the screen.

I saw it in Italy: a wonderful movie, with a lot of humor and an original plot. Great idea to add the pieces with dance and song! Nino.

I loved this movie over all, even though many things remain unexplained. It must be because of the editing... What about Virginie's last conversation with her little sister about her Dad prepared the brioches?

The original music (as performed by the original performers) is great but the performances in this movie suck big-time. As a satire this movie fails miserably and as a comedy/who-dunit (who cares?) so-so at best. The performances are average apart from Isabelle Huppert who is wonderfully over the top as Augustine. The situations are so contrived and unbelievable that the audience was laughing more at the pretentiousness of the director than at inherent cleverness in the script. The director shows little regard for his cast and less for his audience by putting together a parade of contrivance rather than story logic. This story had less good writing than the average sopa opera. The sub-titles totally miss the nuances inherent in the dialogue but even accurate translations wouldn't make any difference as it doesn't work in French anyway. I have seen better student movies and will definitely go out of my way to avoid being subjected to this self-indulgent and untalented director again.

An unexpected and strange little movie. Somewhat stereotyped personages, but an interesting story connects them all. It's a whodunnit... that will keep you guessing. They all sing, which made me quite uncomfortable because of the cheesy way it was done. Thought of it a couple times afterwards, but has in the end, did not make a lasting impresssion.

It's exactly what it says - mystery & musical. I wouldn't call it a comedy, and there is a total lack of psychological reality - why would most of the women in question feel the way the feel? Songs are beautiful however, I am planning to buy a soundtrack.
