Too long and too much unecessary sexual content.

A very good movie about an artist who most never new existed. A 'strong' woman who knew what she & apparently others, wanted, she took the ball & ran with it. P. s. I bet almost every man wished he were Geoffrey Rush during the filming of this movie. Salma Hayek is a god -- she was cheated out of that Oscar she rightfully deserved..

I was actually "forced" to see Frida because it was one of my assignments and it was worht a lot of points. At first I hated it, then I loved it, at times I cried... So basically, it was worth the time, I liked it, it is one of the good autobiographical works that I saw in the past 5 years.

What a beautiful movie. The colours, the scenery, the plot, all of it was worth a second veiwing. This will be one I purchase on DVD to watch over and over.

After watching the movie Frida I've come to the conclusion that I still know nothing about this artist. All that I percieved from the movie was that she was a sexual pervert. There has to be more to this women than her libido! I found the movie was grossly unfair to her. I choose to read more about her instead.

[ATTENTION: This review reveals content of the movie.] My god, what horrible direction. Taymor (Titus) should stick to stage production. The film should be re-titled Diego, cuz it's more preoccupied with him; the only telling moments in Frida's character based around her sexuality and these fleeting encounters that do no so much as define heras they detract from her. With other women, with Trotsky, beginning with her first boyfriend. Was this an attempt to characterize her as a sexual beast who could empathize or at least understand her husband's infidelity - while it also ate her up inside. But most importantly, for a bio on an artist, it did nothing whatsoever to delve into her actual art. Explain the rich symbolism in her art that is inspired by Mexican folklore and motif imagery. An art bio's characters should be both the art and artist and an attempt to explain the reciprocal relationship between the two. Not just show that she can chug booze, get with a Marxist disciple. Taymor's palette was exquisite, as in Titus which is an art direction principal of the stage - use colours and set design to express. However, film is a different medium and has many other devices at its disposal so there was no need to resort to gimmicky montage sequences, such as their trip to New York.

Wow, wow, wow! I loved every aspect of this movie. It is hands-down, the most bold, exciting, and original film I've seen in a while. If there is any justice, Salma Hayek will win the Oscar for Best Actress. She is at once fierce, vulnerable, passionate, and moving. Alfred Molina is also wonderful to watch, displaying a unique charm and not afraid to be regarded in an unflattering light. The story of Frida's journey is life is remarkable, and brought to life onscreen with such brilliance. For those of you who have to travel out of your way to see this movie, as I did, believe me - it's worth it!

What a delicious treat! I loved every minute of this film. A number of years ago I attended my first (and only) art exhibit. One of the paintings in the collection was Frida's. I remember that I dismissed this painting as being ugly and disturbing. This film taught me a lesson about appreciation of the art and the artist. I love how the director so aptly showed us the process that flowed from Frida to the canvas. I also left the theatre determined to learn more about the history of Mexico. Maybe this film will encourage more Mexican filmmakers to tell their stories ie. Y tu Mama Tambien, another wonderful film from Mexico and very different from Frida. Frida has my vote as best film this year.

This movie was very heartwarming and passionate. I felt the music lended the balance that was needed to feel what Freida was living and all the characters around her were played extremely well by the actors who beleived that Selma Hayak had a story to tell from her heart. She is truly oscar worthy in her performance and noone should be surprised that she delivered nothing less in this wonderfully told story.

Salma Hayek IS Frida! ! with all her courage, passion for art and love, fiestiness,.. and not feeling sorry for herself, in spite of the greatest challenges in her life. I think Frida is an excellent movie and Salma Hayek is the only actress who could be Frida, not only is she from Mexico and knows her own culture and roots, she also gives the performance of her career, she deserves the Oscar!! As well this movie shows Frida's life and many people'll be able to know this magnificant painter and woman, because her strong personality should be admired in all the world. Greetings from Spain!

Hello my coment regards this movie is different as other person I believe the life of Frida was total different as what they put her in this movie. I was more like disapointed because I really she did more for mexicans than sleep around and get drunk all the time. This is my simple comment sorry if you are not agree with it.

As a mexican I think the movie lacks of reality. In order to portray frida one needs more than dressing out in folkloric outfits, and showing the sexual life that the artist had. And why it is spoken in english if it is part of our mexican history? I got insult by these movie. I did not like it!

I don't agree with the person who says this film is not acceptable to Latin Americans, in terms of realism. This was a fantastic movie whether it portrayed her life properly or not. It is unfortunate that most people will never understand her painting more than just what was said in the film (accurately or not) , but exposes this wonderful story to a larger audience. And that's just what a good film does, tells a story and makes us feel for the characters. Why are so many people today caught up in whether or not the film is 'real', when the story, narrative and uniqueness of this film is a treasure in its own right? I would like to believe that most people would be conscious of the fact that this is only ONE portrayal of Frida Kahlo amoung thousands that MAY or MAY NOT be more accurate than this account...

Good film about an exceptional woman; this is a hollywoodesque version of her life not a biographical documentary and still gives a sense of her tragedy, her spirit and her inner beauty. The real thing? Only if you lived in her times and situations. The most realistic version though is of course in spanish with the great Ofelia Medina. Nevertheless, I appreciated the acting (English and all) and the almost real and true version of Frida mainly for those who want to know about her and Rivera's strange but passionate love story. By the way... I am mexican!

I've seen a few artists biographies on the big screen but rarely with a creative and fresh approach. Frida is a biography indeed but there is a very creative breeze that blows here and there all through the film evolution. Salma Hayek gives a very spontanous and solid performance and the other actors around her are sharp as well in their roles. There are those little moments of Hollywood type of emotions and human relations solutions that I prefered if they were avoided but then they are very minor details in a creative and fresh biography.

Firstly let me inform to two of the people who wrote comments about this film that Frida Khalo was one of the most outstanding surreal latinoAmerican painters of the XX century and perhaps one of the most important painters of that century worldwide. Her paintings have sold in Sotheby's and Christie's auctions in London and NY for million dollars and some art critics (male) even think that Diego Rivera became famous because his affair with Frida Khalo and no the other way around. I think that the film is stereotypical and trivializes the reality of Mexico and the life of this exceptional woman. Frida was an extremely nationalistic individual and she would have not liked at all to see her impersonation speaking in English. Salma's digestible version of Frida's life and times can be OK for a NorthAmerican audience who understand very little of the reality and values of LatinoAmerican countries. However for a latinoAmerican audience this is a barely acceptable film.

I think this is the type of movie that will touch most human beings in a very special way. It's an emotional movie in which I was able to learn about someone I had never heard of before. I left feeling that I had a greater understanding of a very IMPORTANT person in the history of ART. Great acting by Salma Hayek (not just another pretty face!!), Alfred Molina (deserves Oscar considerations!) and the rest of the cast.

This had to be the most amazing film I have seen in years. I went twice just so I could get every visual morsel again. I am not a person who gushes over movies but I do feel somewhat of an expert when it comes to what works... and this film does! Bravo to the director for not only making one of the most visual stuning films in years but for also bringing life to a women's story so full of passion, pain and life that you could taste it.
